What is the best bluetooth keyboard to use with the MBP? I was looking at the new Apple wireless keyboard but for some [dumb] reason they decided to make it without the num pad. I need the num pad b/c I work with numbers on Excel all day. So what do you guys suggest?

Another question...Has anybody used the new wired apple keyboard and if so, how is it? Also, will the USB ports in the keyboard charge my iPhone?

Xander made a thread about it a while back...turns out the USB ports on the new Apple Wired Keyboard only charges USB 2.0 devices when connected to the new iMacs. So no, you won't be able to charge your iPhone with the keyboard unless you plug it in with the new iMacs.

Wow so the new keyboard wouldnt be able to power my iPhone even when it's connected to my new macbook pro? That's very dissapointing from Apple. Are you 100% about this?

Nopes, according to Xander and several other forums, only the new iMac (not even the Mac Pro) can power the new Keyboard for USB 2.0 devices.

Yes, it is very disappointing. Also very bad marketing too.

Can/will this be fixed with a software update or is it a hardware problem?

Technically, it should be a software problem, as I see absolutely no reason why the Mac Pro cannot power the Keyboard and only the iMac can...

Does anyone have any suggestion for a thin keyboard to go on my desk that includes a number pad?? It can be bluetooth or wired but if it's wired I would prefer it to have a bluetooth port that can charge my iphone.

    1) There aren't that many Bluetooth keyboards available.
    2) The good ones are expensive.
    C) The best one that I've used ( Logitech diNovo Edge) does not have a number pad and I'm not sure how it would perform on a Mac and costs about US$200.

I think your best option is the Apple Wireless (Bluetooth) Keyboard. The new aluminum version is not quite available yet and does not have a number pad. However the previous version does have a number pad. Peace.

EDIT: For reference, here is the thread Sam mentioned concerning Apple's aluminum Wired Keyboard: New Apple Keyboard - USB Low Power Notice.

I have an old Apple wireless keyboard (the transparent one)

its bluetooth, it works in both MacOsx and Vista (bootcamp)
note* all features works, sound, eject etc..

the new apple wired keyboard doesnt let you boot up with the alt key
so its pretty stupid and its possible to find the right drivers

bluetooth there is the dell keyboard wich is black and silver

problem with the diNovo is that the numpad is software operated (i tried it)
so when you connect to a computer at distance the numpad wont work on the computer your using...pretty crappy

I actualy have bought the wired one, ill tell you about all the features when i can
Microsoft Wireless Entertainment Desktop 8000 is bluetooth too...i think
but still no numpad (wtf is wrong with these dudes and its 300+$)

mac Osx or Windows its not rocket science its a keyboard only some features wont work

The old apple wireless keyboard would be the deal, get one on ebay

You might want to look at the Logitech Di Novo media desktop. It comes with a mouse, and it's pricey, but it has a separate number pad. That would be pretty convenient for you if you could just pair the number pad, but I don't know if you can do that. Here's a link: Logitech Di Novo Media Desktop

Edit: Actually it doesn't list compatibility for Macs, so I guess that wouldn't work.

You could get the old Apple wireless keyboard. My mom has one with her iMac, and I never had any problems with it. Amazon.com has them starting at $42.

    Edit: Wow, I got pwned.
