Just want to share my experience with the "blurry fonts".

I've been a PC user all my life and just recently purchased a Macbook Pro. The fonts on the laptop screen look good but when I connected it to my 20" external monitor they looked really blurry!

It seems that the problem was that I connected via a VGA cable. When I tried it again with a DVI cable, the screen looked very sharp and clear. The text is displayed a little differently than Windows but it is not blurry. Hopefully this will help some of you guys out :)

Your post just made me purchase a mini-DVI to DVI-D adaptor. I hope I'll see the same improvements as you did on my 20" LG.
I do have a question. Does your external display's contrast or brightness improve with DVI? Because I think my LG isn't bright or colourful enough, given its technical specifications.

I don't think that the brightness or contrast changed. If you're having problems with that stuff I'd recommend buying a color meter. I use the Spyder2Express and it really improved the image.

I was extremely disappointed when I had my external monitor connected to the Macbook Pro via the VGA cable but as soon as I changed to DVI it looked great. I've always had my desktop computer connected through VGA (it doesn't have DVI out) without problems.. I guess maybe it's because the Macbook Pro needed to converted DVI to VGA and that doesn't work too well.. anyway, let me know how things work out for you :)

I've always had issues with VGA-outs on laptops. I don't know why, as VGA seems to work just great on my LCDs from a desktop source.

My Acer AL1714 does just fine with the dvi-vga converter. It doesn't look as good as the MBP screen, but that can only be expected from a three year old monitor.
