Hello,
I recently bought the new MBP. I've been a longtime PC user, my whole life and this is my first mac. I love the computer itself, the build quality is just amazing. However I'm trying to put Windows XP on the new MBP to use Office, and probably play a few games. But the problem is the copy of XP I'm trying to use is downloaded through my University with the MSDN Academic Alliance program. I wrote the ISO file to a DVD, but there is no way to launch the copy of XP with that ISO image.
Any suggestions?
THANKS!

Maybe drop by the tech centre at school, and see if they have cds you can use.
Although, you cant just burn an iso to a dvd, like put it on as a data dvd.
You need to open the iso using a burning program, like toast, or disk utility, and then burn it. (wasn't clear if you did that or not)
[edit]can you load and install windows xp from a dvd? i've never actually tried to do it, always used cds[/edit] -
I downloaded the file on my PC laptop that runs windows XP, and used a program to load the ISO file as a disk image onto the DVD. It does load on PC's, I tried it on my laptop, and my friends PC that runs windows XP, just the file is not compatible with the OS X, so I was wondering if there is a way to make it compatible?

To Read an ISO file you need software like Daemon tools in Windows, or similar types of software for the OSX, since you are planning on installing this DVD Image You will not have access to such software during the installation cycle, your only option is to burn it to a DVD. Mounting the image (including converted images) is not an option for OS install.

If your using a PC laptop with a dvd burner, use imgburn to write the ISO to dvd. It'll automatically mount it and burn an exact copy.

I'm not sure if I said it right, but after I burned the ISO image to the DVD, it gives a setup file, that is only executable in a machine that already has windows on it, is there any way to get OS X to read this image?

I'm not sure if I fully understand you're situation correctly, but here's what I did with my iMac (and will soon be doing with my MBP).
I had a .iso file for Windows XP Pro on my iMac, which was the computer I wanted to installed Windows on. I used Disk Utility to burn the .iso onto a DVD which I then used to boot up the iMac with and proceeded to install Windows.
Just be sure that you have the product key for Windows... I left mine at home (I'm at college now), so now I'm shafted as far as Windows is concerned until I can go home and get it. -

How do you use Disk Utility to write the ISO image to the disk? Anytime I try I get an input/output error.

i think you'll have to burn the image to a disk so it can be read when the computer boots up
Boot camp question
