Hi all, I'm coming from a PC and don't have much experience with macs so this may sound like a dumb question.
I'm thinking of purchasing a macbook pro and running boot camp. My questions are:
    1. If I save a file while running on Leopard, can I still access it when I'm running XP?
    2. Can the Apple store install boot camp or will I have to do that myself?
    3. Does Leopard support other languages, specifically chinese like XP and Vista?

    Thanks in advance!

    1) No, unless you get MacDrive or Parallels/VMware Fusion, as Mac OS X uses HFS+ for the hard drive, which can't be read or written to by Windows. Windows uses NTFS, which can be read but not written by Mac OS X.

    2. Its pretty simple, I think you can handle it yourself. Everything is straightforward.

    3. Absolutely. Mac OS X supports a lot of languages, you can choose :).

    1. Sadly this is not possible at this time. You can view (but not edit) the files on Windows XP while in Leopard, but not vice versa. Windows does not recognize the HFS+ file system that Leopard uses, but Leopard does recognize Windows' Fat32 and NTFS file systems.

If you install XP with the Fat32 file system, you can freely view and edit files on that partition from Leopard. But, if its in NTFS format you can only view them.

A workaround for this is to use a virtualization software such as VMWare's Fusion or Parallels. They allow you to transfer files back and forth with no problem by drag-n-drop. They support virtualizing the Boot Camp install of XP.

    2. I don't think the Apple Store will do it for you. Keep in mind that you'll need to buy your own copy of XP (or Vista) to perform the install. Boot Camp does not include it. The Boot Camp wizard makes installation a breeze. Also, Sam has a VERY well written post on this forum on installing and using Boot Camp and using VMWare Fusion / Parallels also.

    3. I don't know about this one. I think during the Leopard install it asks you which language you want to use.

    Hope that helps!

Edit: Sorry Sam! You beat me to it... :p

Just be sure to format the drive when doing the Windows install (dont leave it set to "Make no changes")
