.. which was stolen out of my car before I ever got it home :( Luckily insurance is paying for the stolen property. Not sure if I'll order another one.

Before there are any smart comments, I had to go back into the mall after realizing my wife left her cell phone in the car -- I had to go back ot get her. I made sure nobody was around to see me put the notebook in, save for an old man.

Came back in less than 10 minutes and it was gone. Lesson learned.

Well, I already had a macbook at home. Was gonna get the MBP as a replacement, but I wasn't sure if I should or not, but went ahead and bought it anyway.

Guess Someone answered the question for me :D

So are you going to get another MBP, then? Or just sticking to the MacBook for now?

I really had no good reason to get the MBP other than to play windows games now and then. Given that 1) I really shouldn't be playing them and 2) a good PC desktop with better specs costs less, I probably won't get another one. I'm still gonna lose my deductible, which is about $200, so my insurance will pay out round $1700 something. (I got the education discount).

The police said someone probably followed me out of the store through the mall and hid out of view in the parking lot. Sucks for the thief that there was a security camera pointed straight at my car. They're going to review tapes and stuff and let me know if they find anything.

10 minutes? #$ck!!! That's a horrible story. It's just as bad as someone keying your car. Maybe worse. Probably worse, depending on your car. They're equally idiotic crimes. Last time I was at the Apple Store, some a-hole stole a Mighty Mouse. The jerk cut the cord and just stole the mouse... moron!

Seriously though, I wish someone had video of me purchasing my MBP from the Apple Store. I probably looked ridiculous, I'm paranoid like a MOFO ;). I hope everything works out, best wishes. Peace.

That's the thing about Apple's boxes; they're real cool-looking, but they're seriously walking advertisements of "Rob me! I have an expensive MBP in here!". :D

wouldn't apple be able to track the laptop? the serial # is on the receipt and as soon as the MBP gets online and register or run update apple will be able to find out its IP and such.

That's what I was thinking. But then again, the stolen Macbook will probably end up on Ebay or something to be sold for profit, and some poor bastard will get stuck with it.

That would violate Apple's privacy policy which is not to give out personal identifiable information to any third party member.

The stuck a knife or something into the keyhole in the trunk and basically unlocked it.
