Hi everyone, I got a few questions:
I couldn't resist this deal even though I had a 2012 Macbook Pro Retina and I went ahead and bought this: MACBOOK PRO RETINA 2.3 Ghz 16gb ram 15" SCREEN
I was able to get it for 1600 Cash, which I thought was a good deal. I like everything although I'm somewhat worried that I'm switching from a Samsung Screen to a LG screen now, but I probably should just let that go. I'll have to sell my 2012 Macbook Pro Retina for about $1200? Does that seem fair? That macbook is in my Sig. I won't need it anymore. But my question is there a way I can replicate my HDD to this new one? I don't want to install windows again, that process was hassle but if I have to do it, whatever I guess. For $400, I would have been able to double my HDD, double my Ram, double my Vram and upgrade my CPU and GPU. Oh and the seller was legit, we met a steak and shake and I'm typing this message from my new Macbook Retina.
$1600

Also, why did I just get Notes, Keynotes, and Numbers free? was there some kind of promotion or something?

Are you sure it wasn't stolen? Craigslist is a great place to list stolen items...

I looked up the Serial Key with apple and verified, it was legit.Purchased on December 11th 2013, it means the laptop is like not even 60 days old. Plus he had the original receipt. I literally had like a one hour conversation about everything within the Steak & Shake and made a few phone calls.
The story of this laptop isn't all glamorous btw, the owner's Brother died unexpectedly and he was low on cash and needed to sell it in order to cover funeral costs (His Share his Part). Because I wanted the laptop right away his whole family was there selling me the notebook because they had just finished a dinner discussion about the funeral arrangements at a nearby restaurant. Rarely would you buy a laptop and you have the owners whole family there selling it to you plus the extended.
I felt pretty awful actually (who wouldn't ?) and offered to be a pawn shop offering the computer back should he come up with 1600 again down the road (After all it's my second macbook). And he lightneed up to the idea actually, but his fiance was like no no it's yours it isn't right to do that, "We're just glad it's going to a legit user, we didn't want this laptop to bounce around on craigslists or get resold for $2000 the next day, for a quick buck"
Thank God I didn't buy the 3 year plan on my 2012 Macbook Retina, that fund went straight into getting a new 2013 Macbook
But this is off topic, but interesting, getting back on topic can anyone answer my questions? How would I go about cloning my previous 256gb over to my new 512? and why did I get Pages, Notes, and Numbers free all of a sudden? Lastly what's a fair price for my 2012 Macbook, expired warranty? (Keep in mind I got a good deal on my 2013 and I am willing to pass on that savings to someone else)hfm and turqoisegirl08 like this. -
That's a sad story. Hope it gives you years of enjoyment. That's about the only thing good that can come if it. Props for offering to give it back to them down the road.

You can do a restore from a time machine back up, if you have one. Or, you can use Migration Assistant on both machines and migrate your entire user profile (including applications) over to the new one. You can do that over your home network, or if you have a thunderbolt cable. I do it all the time for users at work when they dont have a TM back up of their system, and very rarely has anything failed, and usually thats just incompatible software that isnt moved over in the first place.
Pages and Numbers I think were offered for free if you purchased your Mac after a certain date. I bought a 13" rMBP on November 1, and in the App store those were still items that I had to purchased. I sent it back because there was a problem with the keyboard (sometime in mid December) and they sent me a whole new system. When I ran updates on that system, Pages and Numbers were free downloads. -
But that won't help me move Windows right? I'm trying to move my windows bootcamp as well. And what should I sell my 2012 Macbook Pro for? ( I'm willing to pass on my savings/discount to the next user/owner)
Thanks. -

Wait, OP has two M17x and two rMBPs, AND a custom desktop?
-
My brother uses a lot of my systems, and if you follow up on my original posts you'll find that I got a lot of systems for very cheap prices. In fact I got my second m17x at 30% off via Boeing Employee Discount, the BEST Dell Discount
On top of that I've always been a GREAT trader, in fact I've given away many free PC/Laptop parts even on these forums. I'm a big believe in "Pay if Forward"

Google it.
There are other tools with GUI's that will also clone an entire drive.
EDIT: I should also mention I bought a USB->SATA cable to plug in the target drive (apricorn makes it I think.. I'm not home can't look it up) -

I wonder if my setup makes Jobine rage too lol... -
Since using this new macbook I'm shocked with how much better a few of my games play on it. Not that I play alot of games on my Macbook but the upgrade is significant and I'm surprised. I don't think I have a issue/problem with my LG screen.

Karamazovmm Overthinking? Always!
If you want I take the rmbp from you. If you are going to sell it for 1200
And the best idea is to clone the drive or rather just move the files to a USB drive and reinstall everything
dosed, mixed and stirred, not shaken, from taptalk -
Envy you, hope I can get an Alienware also.
