Im moving from being a life long windows user to OSx, should i expect this transisition to go smoothly, or is it like moving to another planet?

moving to another planet, moving to another planet, moving to another planet!!!!

I have no experience with OS X, but from playing with it a bit at the store, I can imagine it could take a while to get used to, but you'll probably be addicted by the time you do.
Kind of like moving from I.E to Firefox and from Outlook to Thunderbird, but not really, you get my point ? because I'm not sure I do... -
Yeah i get your point. Moving from IE to Firefox didint exactly change the way i use computers but it ceratinly made it a whole lot better
-
As long as you read manuals and an introduction to Tiger it is really smooth

It really depends on your habits. I found OS X to give somewhat less options than Windows, GUI and configuration wise. I specially miss a tree in the Finder, alongside some options I use a lot in Konqueror (KDE's file manager). OTOH I am starting to discover some tidbits that are nice and make up for some of the things I miss - like Command-Clicking the title bar in an app and getting a list of all enclosing folders. But it is more of a nuisance than anything, OS X is perfectly useful and it sure looks and feels very coeherent - and downright beautiful.

From my experience with OS X, it feels more like my experience moving from FireFox to Opera, both have their great qualities that makes it so neither has an enormous edge over the other one so that it can really replace everything I do, however, one just clicks with me better.
I still use windows, but I'd like a mac, at least to play around with for a while, the most I've had is an hour or so with my uncle's laptop. -
I don't see the point of you posting here as you - how to put it gently - doesn't exactly offer anything constructive to the topic.
To the original poster:
There will of course be some transition time but you will find yourself using less and less time with Windows based systems and generally like how Mac OSX is very user friendly set-up. I went from my Windows based desktop (I would call myself a Windows-wizard, as I help out all my friends, setting up servers etc.) to my MacBook Pro I have progressively used my desktop less and less.
At first you will probably play around with Exposé (F9) and other nifty built-in features of the Mac OSX. Try out APPLE+SHIFT+4 to define an area which you want to take a screenshot of.
I especially appreciate iCal (Calendar you can publish).
Just make sure all your applications are Universal Binary, that will make a huge difference! (if you are buying a Mac with Intel processor). -
It's like moving from The Slums to Park Ave -
Yeah, both provide the same basic function, it's just one cost a whole helluva lot more.

I am in the same boat as Pressure. I have been using OS X for 2 months now and all I can say is wow! You will have a difficult time at first, but after the first week things will get comfortable, after the second you start finding out that it does everything you want and you know how now. By the third week you will begin to feel sorry for your Windows PC because it never gets used. After the fourth week you feel sorry for your former Windows brethren because they just don't know what they are missing!
In all seriousness, you will get used to it quickly, and going to Windows afterwards will beign to painful. I only use my Windows box for gaming now. Nothing else. It actually runs really fast cause I just have a few games on there and nothing else. It is really nice. -
Im getting a macbook in the next few weeks and if i like OSx i might get a....whatever the Apple pcs are called later
-
You mean an iMac or PowerMac (not sure what they will probably rename it too)
I'm planning on my next desktop computer to be an iMac. -
Supposedly the name of the new line of of towers to replace the Power Mac will be called "Mac Pro".
-Zadillo -
Hopefully we'll be finding out about the *Mac Pro* sometime early next week. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a MacBook Pro revision as well
