    Hello Everyone,

I am interested in buying a 17" mbp but don't know if I should pull the trigger on a c2d or just wait a few months until the mac lineup has changed. I know that they are coming out with the LED backlight and many other features.

    1. Does anyone know when the new ones are going to come out?

    2. I've checked the refurbished mac section on apple.com and they have the 17" cd for $1999. When do people think they will have the c2d out (refurbished, and how much)?

    3. Or I could just wait a few months and use my educational discount and buy a new one for 10%.

Im not in a hurry to buy but am looking for a good deal to snatch.
    Thanks for the help/advice.

The longer you can wait, the better you are off.

I recommend against the 17" CD if you want your macbook pro to be more future-proof.

The best time to buy is immediately after a line update. Apple stores will pull all affected floor stock and put it on an immediate discount. If you're buying in person you'll need to act quickly. I hadn't heard that the LED was confirmed fact, did you see that somewhere? I'm fairly sure they will bump the procs up this march/apr. Anyhow, waiting is worth it if you're ready to buy the moment this all happens. Just a note, I've not seen good things from apples 17" displays, so be sure you get a good one if you can. As for price, they'll most likely remain the same in true apple fashion, but new models will replace old, and old C2D models will become as the CDs are today or atleast somewhere in between.

I think ill just wait until they update these mbp's or change the whole line and buy immediately with student discount. I was just asking becuase Ive been looking at some 2.16's on craigslist for like 1600-1800 and was exteremely tempted. But ill save some more money in the next few months and pull the trigger on a new one.

BTW, the LED screen from what I read is just a rumor. Does anyone know what else they may change besides the OS (leopard), and chip for the next line? Links would be appreciated. Thanks agian.

It is only rumored that MacBook Pros will recieve a refresh on Leopard/Santa Rosa release. It is best to buy a laptop when you need it. The changes won't be significant and LED technology probably won't appear in this refresh because it's very expensive at the moment.

Ya it's all specuation till it happens with apple, but some things are more likely to happen so we place wagers. http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsid=3430
This has a near certainty to be available Q2 at least in limited quantity to the chosen, but it's hard to say how fast apple adopts it, silently or otherwise. Earliest estimate late march. I bet closer to April at NAB is a fair chance. If you can deal with waiting then there's no reason not to. Who knows what apple will do to improve it's lineup.

If you want it buy it. If you can wait then wait.

I bought a MacBook Pro and love everything about it. I do feel however that I could have waited until Leopard comes out. Heck I could have made do with my old setup for probably two more years or so.

I wanted the Mac though so I pulled the trigger. You can't be worried about something newer and better coming along because guess what... IT'S GOING TO HAPPEN.

^I agree. It's not worth it to keep waiting for the next big thing to happen, because you'll just keep waiting forever.

I asked that question the other night at my local apple store - they told me that the MBPs were refreshed right before the holidays so they didn't expect anything to change for a while - and that the release of Leopard would be enough to keep things interesting. Apple is introducing a new product every month and this month I believe she said it was the orange nano...
