Hi All :
I have been a PC/Windows user for long, but have no idea about Macs. I am thinking of getting a laptop now.
Is it possible to transfer all types of files between my PC and Apple notebook (both ways) periodically and seamlessly? Any link to a web resource would be appreciated.
Thanks,
-
You could get a router and do the network thing. If they PC apps you may not be able to open them in Mac.

This is a good place to start: http://www.apple.com/switch/
Any files that open on pc only software, you won't be able to open, but most of the popular cross platform types (doc, pdf, bmp, etc), there should be no problem.
Yeah a router would be an easy way to transfer files whenever. and have both computers on the internet. -
what about external hard drives. can u read and write to a ntfs drive? what about a fat32 drive? looking at getting an ibook and making both dvd burner external along with hardrive in my broken desktop.

i think i have found that OS X can maybe read ntfs, but it for sure cant write to it, to read/write from both oses, it would have to be fat/fat32

oh cool... i did not know that, thanx for the info. i had an external on my other win-based notebook and when i plugged it into my mac book, i could read but could write on it. now i know the reason y... it was in NTFS format. i didnt know so i reformatted the external HDD with the MBP

It depends on what type of files you are going to tranfer. -
Be careful if you work with Access databases. There is no way to open them on a mac (if anyone has a suggestion please tell me how to do it). For some reason someone didn't find it necessary to include it in Office for Mac.
Also be aware that switching from pc to mac will be a big adjustment. After using a mac at work for 3 months now I have so say that I already had to suppress the urge to throw the thing out of the 5th floor window and having the pleasure to see it go to pieces several times. (But it probably also helps that I didn't pay for it to start with).
Anyway I'm buying a new laptop soon (more or less decided on the Acer Aspire 5672) and will probably start bringing that into work and use the apple as decoration.
Buying Apple?
