Hey Guys! I need a little help here. I´m lucky enough to have someone in the US to buy me a MBP 2,4 ghz and the 7k200 + 4 gb RAM. Now assume time is not the problem and education discount would be possible.

Where exactly would you buy it? MBP from Apple Store + components from NewEgg? Is there a cheaper way? I also found some ebay sellers offering the mbp with said options + Apple Care for around 2,8k... Price and safety are major concerns here. :)

I dont know about anything for sure, but what I do know is that if you want 4 gigs of RAM order a macbook with the least amount of RAM that can be selected(2 Gigs) and upgrade to 4 Gigs on your own. Buy the RAM from Newegg.com or fry's, they always have great deals for RAM.

you should definitely just order the machine from the Apple store, and you can always take a look at a refurbished machine or look into a student discount if price is a concern.

and definitely just pick up the RAM from newegg.com, the prices are absolutely ridiculous, now is the best time to be buying ram for this type of laptop.

I would recomend Corsair as it is easily one of the top manufacturers, and a 2GB stick of Corsair RAM compatible with the MBP is incredibly cheap right now: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145172

and corsair is now offering a 4GB kit now as well: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145193

I recommend Corsair because I have had no issues whatsoever with any of their RAM, it is what I use in both of my portable machines (2GB in my Fujitsu, and 4GB in my MacBook Pro, with zero issues, not to mention their current prices on newegg are extremely aggressive)

Thanks for the replies, guys, but you didn´t get me right. I´m well aware of the fact that one shouldn´t buy RAM upgrades in the Apple Store. I wouldn´t do so anyway.
What I´m more interested in is where to buy the MBP and where to buy the upgrades. I only know NewEgg, but is it any good? And what about the MBP: would it be best to buy it directly from Apple or are there any benefits when it´s bought anywhere else?

Newegg... is the last name in online computer parts as far as I'm concerned.

Okay, so I do use TigerDirect on occasion, but overall, their customer service is really good and their shipping is excellent. Newegg is probably the most beloved online retailer. They are generally the cheapest, but even when they are not, assurance that you will get the item quickly and will have no hassles is worth the extra couple dollars you may spend.

Personally, I wouldn't buy laptops off Ebay. I'd go straight from the Apple store.

Newegg's the best, definitely. Too bad its not available in Canada, instead, we have NCIX ;).

Ok, so it´s best to get the upgrades from NewEgg, good. And the MBP itself from the Apple Store?

Yep, if you live near an Apple store its best (and more enjoyable) to go to it and pick one up than have to wait for it in the mail. NewEgg is the way to go to get cheap and good upgrades.

Personally, I don't have a specific place to purchase Macs. I mean, Best Buy occasionally has $50-100 off its Macs, while Apple directly doesn't. So, I would just get it where its cheap, but I'll note, MacMall has Macs cheap all the time, but I have heard bad stories about it.
