Hey everyone, im looking to buy a macbook pro 13" for my sister since shes going to college and needs a better laptop then the compaq that last 20min with the battery she has while being unpluged. I dont know anything about the macbook pro. Im just wanting to know if this is a good computer and is the battery life good? Also has anyone here had problems with the macbook pro being the macbook's fault and not yours?

Wow, you're a nice sibling. I bought a Macbook Pro 13 for myself and gave my sister my old Dell haha.

I could not be happier with my recent purchase of the 2010 13" Macbook Pro. Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with laptops that run Windows, but I'm just pleased I made the switch even though I'm already very proficient with computers that run Windows OS.

I won't go into the details regarding the differences between the Macbook Pro and Windows equivalents as I'm sure you already know this.

That being said, in the event your sister will need to run something only available on Windows (say a program she needs for class), remember that when you buy a Mac you can still run Windows based applications via Bootcamp or Parallels. Just between me and you though, I don't think she will bother installing Windows for anything, OS X is that amazing.

You asked about battery life and here's where I'm a bit iffy ... Sure it's advertised for 10 hours, but don't be fooled. While the Mac will estimate that you have 10, 11 or even 4 hours left depending on what you're doing at that point in time ... You will not get 10 hours, more like 7 or 6 if you plan to work comfortably. By comfortable I mean, Wifi On, 50% brightness, 50% volume, streaming flash content occasionally.

I haven't had any problems with mine so far, it's my best purchase in a long time.

Macbook Pros are generally very solid. OSX is easy to learn. Good battery life. It will definitely last over 4 hours on a full charge which should be more than enough for her.

I just took home a 13" MBP from the local Apple store today. The display is outstanding, comparable to the $1900 Sony Z11. Anything else with decent battery life is slow. I had an Asus U30JC for one day and had to RMA because the Optimus video was defective out of the box. The display on that machine was not even close.

I do a lot of photography, so color is important to me.

The battery is excellent, great battery life, but do note that you can't take it out! Its a very good notebook, I'm getting the 13-inch MacBook Pro myself soon!

I returned my Asus U30JC too. The size was unexpected and the screen was a huge turn off. It's like they took used screens from 3-4 years ago and put them on a new laptop.
