So I have to buy a new laptop for my younger brother, and he's thinking macbook (I'm no longer going to be the 'special' one in the family). But given the US and Canadian dollar parity, and the inexcusable $200 price difference between a macbook in the US and Canada, I'd like to buy him the MB in the US and bring it to Canada.

Does that fly? or should I worry about canceled warranties or any other policy?

No, warranties are worldwide. So it doesn't matter where you buy it.

Watch out for tariffs/duties when crossing the border, though. Might want to factor that into your decision ;).

I don't think computer equipment is subject to any duty, but you will have to pay GST & PST / HST.

Ya it actually the best part about Apples warranties in that it doesn't matter where you bought it :D
But yes you will be paying taxes and a processing fee.....

I would do it then tell Apple Canada becuase I am sick of haveing to cross the line (2 mile trip for me) just to save hundreds of dollars.

YUP unless prove previous purchase and taxes they will say you just bought it
I have flown into YVR before and had them demand taxes on a six month old camera.

Tell Apple Canada what? To give me the USD price and ship it to Canada? I don't think they do that.

I bought my HP ZT3000 at the US, and since i was going to LA for christmas had it shipped to my cousin and brought it back myself. At the airport customs, they asked me about the laptop, and I told them I had it brought in Canada and before my trip. I was sweating though, cuz all they needed to do is to look at the serial # and see that it was a US order...

have you taken into account the educational discount? because you can't get one in the states unless you know someone there who will help you and the difference may be less than $100 after that which really isn't worth the drive

on the other hand, i am having someone bring me a mbp from hk and that will save me around 500$ if u include tax here

Well I have several relatives and friends in the US. But I was thinking of buying a refurb...
but for SOME reason, I can only find the macbooks with the previous CPUs (not Santa Rosa, the one before that). That would've been fine if the price was regular price of santa rosa macbooks - $200 refurbished discount - $200 older model, so $400 off in total (which is what I had when I purchased mine in May). BUt it's only $200 off the regular price. Weird. :S

Cant you just buy it there, open it up, ditch the box and bring it back in a backpack or something? I did that with a laptop i bought for my sister.

I can, and that's what I did with my ZT3000. But someone else mentioned in this thread that sometimes they can require proof that you bought it in the US.
Plus, i think (????) they can find that you're lying through the serial #
