I have a Blackbook 2.4, with 2gb of ram. Right now I don't have the stock ram, my friend took it when he sold it to me, there's some random mis-matched slow 2x1GB sticks of stuff in there, I can buy a 4GB stick (800MHz) off of another buddy soon for 100 kuai ($14), I was wondering, I know OSX will only take 4GB or whatever, and that the book wont support more than 4GB, but will ONE slot support, and fully utilize the 4GB stick?
I only need this computer for another month before I buy a new MBP, so I don't want to spend any actual money on Ram, I'm doing semi-ok with 2gb.

Does anyone know?

EDIT : also you need to check you version of OSX is 64bit or you will only be able to use 3gb , I think, new to Mac myself. -
I don't believe so(but I could b e wrong)... also its a small point but one stick wont perform as well as 2 sticks in dual channel. So unless your doing a heap of large file manipulations e.g photoshop. There isn't going to be much point upgrading, u won't notice the difference esp for only one month.

The logic boards on the plastic Macbooks support up to 4GB of RAM using both slots, so each slot would only support up to a 2GB SO-DIMM.
Also note that OS X is partially 64bit (long story), so it will recognise all 4GB RAM. -

Yeah, Apple supposedly rewrote the kernel and everything in Snow Leopard to be 64bit. But Snow Leopard will still be 32bit compatible.

That seems nice!!!

Thank's Budding that's exactly what I needed to know.
I need more ram because I run parallels, and I like FF and that's a ram sucker.
I also like to watch a movie in a different space, so all of that at the same time eats ram quickly.
Can a Black Macbook support a 4GB ram stick, in one slot?
