    Hey,

I recently, dropped a little over a thousand dollars, on a macbook for university, and low and behold after only two months of having said macbook, the screen has cracked.

The odd thing is that I'm not quite sure how, because no one used it from the time I used it to the time I returned to discover the scar on my notebook's once beautiful visage.

The fact of the matter, is I don't have the money to replace the screen ( which is almost 90% of the original price to repair) So, I was wondering is it possible to move the hardware from a macbook into a normal PC labtop casing?

yes, any damage to the screen is instantly, written off as the consumer's fault and consiquently, not covered, extended warranty or not

might be able to find the screen aftermarket and install it yourself, which isn't that hard.

Switching the innnards to another chassis is going to be well nigh impossible.. It'd have to have the same port placement, safe mobo mounting, same sizes for all the devices.. in short, won't happen..

Getting a replacement screen is your only option.. It might cost upto 400$, depending on where you buy it from..

There's MacBook screens on eBay. It's definitely cheaper. This may be of interest.

This will show you how to take the alu MB apart:

    http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/First-Look/Mac/MacBook-Unibody

I would also go on Ebay and see if I could find a replacement screen there. If you don't find it at first keep going back, someone is bound to damage their MB and part it out.
    Good luck

yeah the screen didn't break itself. unfortunately. did you leave it in your room with the door unlocked or something? maybe ask security or your RA to review the cameras and find who messed up your computer.

and as stated above, there is no reason to move the parts out of the case. turn on the machine, close the lid. get an external mouse, keyboard, monitor. you now have a working computer.

I agree with Masterchief. If all else fails, then turn it into a desktop. I did that with an old Toshiba laptop I had a while ago after I accidentally sat on the screen (whoops!).
But if you can get a replacement screen off ebay etc then I suggest you do that. Either way you lok at it, you will have to cough up the cash.

But before doing either, I suggest you buddy up with Google and see if you can find other people who had the same issue and managed to get Apple to fix it free of charge. One thing I've learnt about customer care is there's almost always some kind of loophole to get you what you want for free or significantly less money.

Good luck, and may the force be with you ;)
