Hi,
I'm interested in purchasing a new MacBook pro. I'm wondering if it can take 8GB of RAM (2 X 4GB). I know that it's very expensive, but some day the price will drop down for sure.![]()
Crucial has the 8GB kit at $1179.99:

However, according to Apple's spec, the maximum is 4GB. ???![]()
BTW, I don't know if I can deal with the super glossy screen and the reduced number of ports.![]()
Steve, we know that you hate ports and buttons, but please!![]()

uh you can get an 8GB kit for less than $400 at newegg... as for the limit, you'd have to contact apple about it.
-
Less than $400? DD3? Please point out where.
According to http://www.apple.com/macbookpro/specs.html ... the 2.4GHz option only goes up to 2GB of DD3-1066 whereas the 2.53GHz only goes up to 4GB of DD3-1066. -

Oh yes it does, sorry for the confusion!
But overall, not the 8GB you seek, thread starter. -
I would ask that question in another week. Right now the specs for the chipset aren't supposed to be available.
Or see if anybody has tried it by then...
It is highly likely that it will take more RAM. My old 8500 tower still has a spec from Apple "16-512MB of RAM", but I had 1GB running in that thing since 1999. -
didn't someone successfully put 6 or 8 gb in one of the santa rosa machines on here?
-
I'm sure it will be able to do 8gb, but it it really worth it in a note book? -
I've stretched the use of my desktops pretty well just because of how much I've been able to upgrade them, and I think most people want to future-proof themselves with their laptops too. -

"First is Apple’s insistence on sticking with 32-bit chipsets for their notebooks, which means you won’t be able to upgrade this generation of MacBook or MacBook Pro beyond 4GB of RAM." -
Yup, that is correct... Insane, but correct
Can new MacBook Pro take 8GB RAM?
