Hi guys.
What is your recommended Mail program for a Mac?
I currently use Outlook on my PC, and will soon be getting a MBP.
BTW, I'm happy with Outlook, so something that looks and "feels" like it would be great. Thanks!![]()

I was using Outlook 2007 via parallels for the first month or so with my MBP and I just switched to mail.app to begin the process of moving away from windows and it is very user friendly. The only thing I do not like is that the calender program and mail are all separate entities so I am waiting for Office 2008 for the mac which hopefully will have an outlook 2007esque mail manager.

I think that mail program in leopard is very great. You may want to check out the video of Steve Jobs on WWDC07 on apple.com

Yeah, I actually really like Mail.app personally. I use Thunderbird on my PC, but Mail.app on OS X.
You can get some idea of what it's like in the Leopard and Tiger demo pages:

Thanks !

Mail.app works nicely for my needs, and there's a site out there devoted to plugins and add-ons for it somewhere.
Someone mentioned that it's not good for IMAP accounts - I don't have one atm so I'm not sure what the problem is there.
Thunderbird's finally getting better though (tabs!). It's still a bit clumsy and slow (and some of the default buttons are rather unintuitive - such as the get mail/get all mail settings).
The Outlook equiv in Office 2008 will be Entourage 2008. -

I still think that using Gmail in a web browser is better than any other mail app out there.
what I do, is make a web link for my gmail inbox and google calendar, and put it in a documents folder, then put links to those links in the dock, I even have some really nice icons for them as well
I have actually seen somewhere that a guy actually made a basically "blank" web browser app, that would just open up gmail or google calendar.
I am super happy with this setup, click on gmail icon in the dock, and it just opens up firefox, or a new tab and right to my inbox.
i might have to post the icon later on. -

if you have multiple gmail accounts you can have then all forwarded to one specific account, and it works perfectly, have been doing it for atleast 6 months with no problems or missed messages.
I just don't like how Mail or Thunderbird or Entourage handles email. Gmail to me is much more efficient, and isn't missing anything, it has notifiers, keyboard shortcuts, very intuitive interface, Honestly, I would not be too surprised to see Google release there own mail App specifically for Gmail. that would be lovely.
here is my solution for now, works wonders

Very nicely done.

Lol, pretty.
I wonder if there's a way to change our iCal icon on the dock to automatically reflect the actual date. I know it updates if you actually open the program, but usually I keep it closed until I need it -
i didn't know the iCal icon updates to match the date, that is pretty cool, iCal is a great App, and the new improvements they are making to Mail actually look pretty good.
I am actually an ADC member, but just with a free subscription as I am not really much of a developer.
here is the latest dock. finally have all the programs and things that I have been wanting for awhile.

Anyway, I have given up on desktop mail applications since I feel they won't even exist in the next few years. I think there is a strong movement toward web based email access, and MS and Mozilla seem to agree, not to mention Yahoo! and Google. Microsoft has web based Outlook that many businesses use and a great looking beta for Live Mail. Yahoo!, too, is working on a very good web based mail solution, and everyone know about Gmail. Take those moves and add to that Mozilla talking about spinng off Thunderbird or even ending official development. I see no reason to invest energy, time, and effort into a desktop mail application unless you really have a need for it.
So, my recommendation. I have moved to Gmail and Google Calender with Google Notifier installed and it is by far the best solution I have used. I have access to everything everywhere without having worry about how my desktop clients will react. Plus it is easy to share calenders with other people in Google Calender and everything updates immediately. So it's bye bye desktop email and calender clients. -
^^the revolution has begun! ^_^
i completely agree, it is amazing how powerful google has made each online system.
on a Mac system you might want to check this out, http://michael-mccracken.net/wp/?p=44
not necessarily super useful but I bet a lot of people would like to view their email like this. -

You can, but it's a bit annoying. You'd have to forward them to gmail, or have gmail access them via pop3.
I prefer the organization and interface of software clients for both calenders and email myself, but it's everyone's personal taste. It certainly does make moving between different computers much simply if it's all online.
Can you recommend a Mail program for a Mac?
