Hey everyone, I recently purchased the new Sony vaio f after looking around for a new laptop. However, I'm wondering if I had made a mistake with the rumors about the next mbp being announced on the 27th.. I wouldve purchased the 13 inch mbp over the Sony vaio f only if it had an hdmi port since I love watching movies from the laptop connected to my HDTV. So my question is, what do u guys think the chances are of the next mbp having an hdmi port, especially since it will have the core i5 with the intel HD integrated graphics? Should I return my unopened Sony vaio f and wait until the 27th?

HDMI means Apple will have to pay royalties.
That's a no go. -
MBP will never have a HDMI port.

There are converters you can buy that will give you hdmi functionality, or just send audio through analog and use hdmi for the video

I know there are adapters that can give you similar multimedia, but they just aren't the same as hdmi because they fail to output sound @ 5.1.

Monoprice also has other adapters that make the mini-displayport and analog or digital audio to HDMI.
That being said, I'd say chances are slim to none that Apple will add HDMIAll of Apples current monitors and the new iMacs use Displayport. And as mentioned Displayport is royalty-free. Also displayport is finally starting to become more common on computer monitors. VESA also approved the 1.2 standard yesterday that adds bandwidth, the ability to daisey chain up to 4 monitors off one port, and the ability to run USB over displayport too.
Apple TV is "bad" example as it is specifically geared to HDTV use, not computing...thus it has to have HDMI. As much as we all like to use our Macs/PCs on an HDTV as a jumbo monitor, that is not their primary function and why I believe Apple leaves it out. -

Also, there is a decent chance of the new macbook pro supporting audio out through the displayport, at which point you could get a $5 hdmi adapter that handles both video and audio just like regular hdmi. the signal hdmi carries is equivalent to the minidisplayport signal, miniDP is basically just a different (smaller) connector. -

Using the Toslink Optical Cable with the 2.5mm plug will allow for 5.1 capabilities since it's a digital audio signal. The audio out in our Macs (infact pretty much all notebooks) use both analog and digital and is an auto-sensing connector. Once it's digital, it would use the "red" light optical signal instead of the analog connection. -

I guess whether the mini-display can output audio depends on how many people are requesting it and it also depends on whether Mr. Jobs needs it or not
Chances of mbp getting hdmi?
