Just finished doing in the initial setup for my MBP.

I wanted to change the short name assigned to the machine. I read the article on Apple and few other posts on how to do this, but each warns about loss of user settings in certain programs, and other problems doing this.

Just wanted to know if this is still an issue in Leopard?

Does changing the name just cause problems for applications and directories you already have setup before the change or will it continue to do so for other programs I install in the future.

The reason I ask is because I just got my MBP today, so I wanted to know if this will actually cause any problems for me now or in the future since I just setup my Mac and have nothing on the computer at all?

    Any help would be appreciated.

I followed the directions published on the Apple website and it worked perfectly. I have had zero issues with any program or file.
