I have a black macbook which is great. However it picks up fingerprints which smudge into what look like dark oil stains on the cover. I tried using soap and water, electronic equipment wipes, and lysol wipes to clean the outside of my macbook but the dark spots don't really go away. How can I get the dark spots to go away?

Dark spots on the cover...? Are you sure? I've heard of it on the keys where it has actually physically worn down, but the cover?

I always just use a dry soft cloth to wipe down the cover and it all goes away...

And just in case anyone wants to know, I find that using the pieces of cloth that come with glasses (for wiping glasses), works very well on wiping electronics. :)

When I wipe it with a cloth, some of it goes away, but its like the oil causes these spots and not all of it gets off.
I'm trying to get all the spots off

I don't think the spots will really ever completely "go away".

When I wipe it, I wipe in a circular motion, and generally I have no spots that show up.

Use alcohol, the first-aid type. Be careful not to drench your cloth in it though. Make sure it's moist, but not soaked.

    like isopropyl alcohol?
I only ask because thats the ingredient on the electronic wipes and i have got the best results with those, but never fully got the markings off.
Its not a big deal but I would think there is a way to get the marks off

Yes, isopropyl alcohol. What i did with my macbook was i took little cotton balls, pour alcohol on them, then squeeze excess fluid. After that I would rub really hard to get the dirt out, then use a drier piece of cotton and wipe hard as well. That worked well for me. If that doesn't help you, then I don't think there would be any other [safe] substance that could help you.
