Back when I was in elementary school we had Apple IIe machines. Playing Number Munchers and Oregon Trail was awesome!
When I got my first PC, it was DOS. I didn't like it and couldn't for the life of me figure it out. It was then that I decided to get a Mac.
Fast forward a few years when Windows 95 came out. I made the switch and have been using Windows ever since. I even work in IT and support Windows XP and Windows 7 every day. I still hate DOS.
But now after working with Windows day after day for 15 years, I've decided to buy another Mac. The last OS I used was OS 8!
I'll admit, I didn't spring for the latest line, I just picked up a 2010 MBP 15 which will meet my needs and allow me to play WoW, which is the only game I play.
Anyway, I just wanted to say HELLO!

15 years, that's going to be hard. Are you using 10.6/10.7?
-
Why hard? I don't think it'll be hard at all.

Nice user name. Flying toasters for the win.

welcome back
I remember the IIe in high school. That was in 1985 or 86 I think. I remember our teacher showed us how to use a spreadsheet. I think it was called numbers back then too.
They had one Macintosh in the back of the class with a MOUSE and we'd take turns painting in grey scale. lol
Before the IIe our school had the TRS 80. That had the Oregon trail on 8" floppies (or was it cassette?). The good old days -

Your off a few years on the IIe.
I started on MS Dos 1.0 and Apple II (not e). But unlike you I was not lost at the cmd line and did a lot of CPM and MCPM programs. Programming on Multitasking was a nightmare for some, but I like it. I've been running on both platforms for years. But I stopped at XP, still help people with Vista Win7, I just like the Mac Platform better. -
Oh man I remember playing Oregon trail in elementary school on the big blue iMac G3's. Though I am a bit younger than you guys so it was on a CD
Anyways welcome back, I'm sure you'll enjoy it! -
, If I look hard I bet I can find a copy of it with nibbles and Quasar command
-
You guys are ancient!

I still have the old DOS version of Oregon Trail... runs fine with DosBox.

The game that kept me up at night was Lode Runner.... Could not put it down once I started. Was on a 5.25 Floppy disk.... It's still around on different platforms now.

Dark Castle was a nice game on Mac back in the day...

Well I got the Mac last week and I haven't been able to even use my old PC anymore. I love it! The screen is so vivid, it's amazing! And World of Warcraft runs just great!
I upgraded it to 8gb of RAM and a solid state and boy is it fast.
Now another question, Parallels or VMWare for Windows 7? I kind of like Parallels on how it seamlessly uses Windows 7, but I'm just wondering which is the more popular option.
Thanks -
I have used Parallels, VMWare, and Virtual Box. Virtual Box is free. Parallels and VMWare have about the same features, but I like the way VMWare takes care of me as a customer better.

And if you're trying to run windows games, you'll have a much better experience just booting into windows and running the games natively. -

Dosbox is made for Windows, Mac OS X, FreeBSD, Linux, Solaris, OS/2, BeOS... and more. -

Coming back to Mac after almost 15 years!
