Hi,
So I recently bought my Macbook Pro from an authorized retail seller here in India. I also bought the AppleCare warranty from them.
As they didn't have the retail box with them at that time, they called up the Mumbai office and asked for the code so they could register the machine with AppleCare and they told me that I would have the retail box within the week.
What they did was register the warranty for me, make a new Apple ID and put in my details for me. All this was NOT asked of them at all.
The problem now is, the AppleCare warranty is linked to another Apple ID. Also, the address information is a little wrong (wrong spelling and wrong PIN Code).
The email address listed is also not mine. I have already sent in the request to Apple to have that changed (have attached invoice online).
I have been very angry with the store, of course, and have been demanding that they either do something about the faux pas they made or refund the warranty so that I can get it from somewhere else where I can register it myself.
They are assuring me that the warranty is linked with the MBP serial number and it will be honored, no matter what details are given.
But because I have created such a fuss, they are trying to get the details changed by contacting Apple.
Can somebody more knowledgeable than me please help me understand this whole issue? What should I do in such a case?
I haven't been able to call AppleCare as they were closed on Sunday.
What should be the proper course of action for me now?
Thanks!![]()

Was this bought at an Apple Store? If not then something really fishy is coming up. The fact that they "called" up the office and asked for the code is complete bs because they would have to open up a box and then get the code from inside. Is the MBP serial number at least attached to applecare?

sounds like your taking care of it fine....
If the machine is under Applecare, Apple will take care of it, they are right about that, as its linked to the machines serial number.
go to the apple support sight and do a warranty check on your serial number and see if it lists Apple care with 3 years, or just the standard 1 year warranty.
It would be better for ease of getting the Applecare service if you need it to have the information Apple has on file correct though.... so don't let them go on that... make sure it gets changed to your correct info to save any possible future headaches. -

go to that website type in your macbook pro serial number and make sure that your mbp shows apple care protection plan. If not you have been scammed -
Thank you all for the replies. As we do not have an Apple store here in India, I went to the next best thing. An Apple Authorized retailer.
It did seem fishy to me as well, that they had to call for the number, however, they are listed on Apple's website as well and had all Apple branding at the store and sold almost as much stuff of Apple as any Apple store would.
I have been to the warranty site and the AppleCare agreements site and both show my coverage is till 2012. So things are fine on this front.
But, of course, I still would like it to be under my name
I logged into the AppleCare agreements page and tried to change my email address. To do that, Apple wants you to scan and attach the copy of the invoice.
I did that and have just received a response from them that this information is not enough???
This is stupid behaviour from Apple, as the invoice is all that I have. -
There is nothing wrong with just getting a number I bought Applecare with just a number twice already from Ebay. Once registered the Applecare is under the notebook itself. It does not matter who the "owner" is. I bought my MBA used and just had the name on the account changed. All I was asked for was the original owner's name.

Buying apple products is a pain in the here in India. And India is supposedly the emerging tech capital of the world.

Well, RSG (the store I bought it from) has been pretty helpful. I was expecting them to be idiots and give me more trouble, but refreshingly I have got 2 calls today from them asking me whether I have received any email from Apple regarding the transfer.
It seems they have already contact Apple and initiated the transfer. I can see that by logging into the account they made for me. It's not listed there anymore. The problem is, its not listed in my account tooHehe, although I hope that's just a temporary thing and it should soon be listed in my account with the proper address and all.
