i've just received the new MBP with 2.16 C2D ..

hadn't get it out of the box yet. and one of my friends wants to buy it from me for exactly what i paid for.

im confused because, i dont play games, nor do i do any kind of designing..

all i do is watching movies, word processing.. chattin...etc
all the simple things that any laptop could do.

i paid almost $2275 for it (tax + upgrading the harddisk) then almost $150 to ship it from america to kuwait.

should i sell it and get the new MB?? .. it would save me alot i guess, and it would give me better battery life..

i think the main advantages of getting the MBP is the large screen, the keyboard (which has the lights bla bla).. and the wireless card that has the draft-n i think? ..

    everything else is identical..

    so, any ideas?

You might just want to buy a big screen TV and a $500 laptop from office depot if those are your requirements...

If you watch movies a lot, you want to get a big screen I think.
BTW, did you pay any customs tax for importation?

Are you set on the Macbook? Like chelsel said you don't need to spend that much if you've listed everything you'll be doing. Go pick a cheap one up from Wal-Mart!

Yeah, the MBP is a bit overkill if you're a basic user. I'd sell it and get the MB.

could the MB battery reach 6 hours?

and is the MB screen good for watching movies?

one more thing, how about the heat, and wireless card. is it the same?

"Speaking of power, you can work unplugged for up to 6 hours — 2.75 hours if you’re watching DVDs or 3.75 hours if you have wireless turned on — before you need to recharge your MacBook battery." - apple.com in the macbook page.

so can the MBP hit the 3.5 to 4 hours target with Wifi on?

Pcmag.com did a review about the new MBP with 2.33 C2D say that "You still get about 2 hours 45 minutes (on MobileMark 2005 tests) using the same 60-Wh battery."

    what do you all think?

where did you buy from US that ships macs internationally mate?

about yr other questions - basically their specs are v similar.. the Pro just has a bigger screen and a better gfx card - if you dont play games, you're better off getting the macbook and hooking it up to a larger screen to watch dvds... if u re just gonna watch dvds, u re even better off buying a dvd player :p mac is a bit of an overkill for the stuff u want.. but if u really wanna buy one, i d suggest the macbook if you already found someone to sell it to..

Well, my MBP CD gets 4 hours with wifi on. Now thats with low brightness settings, but thats still bright enough to easily read, unless in a very brightly lit room (well above a class room / office setting).

Everything I've read says that the C2D gets LONGER battery life, albeit less than 30 minutes more, but I've heard more none the less.

Yes, my friends MB CD can easily hit 6 hours with low brightness and wifi on. Not sure how either the MB/ MBP CD units fair with playing movies, as I don't watch movies on mine.

if it can hit 6 hours, why would apple.com say that it could only reach 3.75 hours ..

they may be accounting for other things... plus a higher brightness level. But yeah, they can get 6 hours with wifi on. It's not like it takes that much juice.
but it has more to do with what else your doing at the time. If you're dogging your processor, then the battery will drain much faster. Likewise if you're doing things that access the HD and dvd drive, down goes the battery.

What sense woudl it make that it would only go 3.75 hours with wifi on when the MBP can reach 4 hours with the wifi on?
