Here is my dilemma: I would like to use the MBP as a second desktop by buying the bluetooth keyboard and bluetooth mouse, and connecting to the 24" ultrasharp with a 1900x1200 res. The problem is, when I MIRROR the display, The resolution is off as it wont do the 1900x1200 because the 15" MBPRO can't do it. I'm connecting via DVI-D, but have the option for HDMI, displayport, or anything else with this monitor as its brand new. Any ideas?

You either have to put the display as extended mode or close the lid on you macbook and have it run the external as a single monitor. Just make sure you turn on the "allow bluetooth devices to wake up" in the keyboard preferences in systems utilities.

Ah closing the lid would be the answer....thanks!

Oh I also forgot, you need to be on a/c... not battery to enable your laptop to run with the lid closed. Make sure your keyboard/mouse is paired and running first too.. or you can just use insomniaX

you may have heat issues if you run with the screen closed...
On mine, after i get it running as a single monitor, i can then open the screen and it doesn't come back on... unless I unhook the external.
You could aslo just plug it in and run dual monitors and make the external monitor the main monitor in the dual setup in display settings, by just dragging the top white blue bar from on screen to the other -
The problem was running it with the lid open wouldnt allow for the highest resolution. I'm going to try this way and see what happens. Also can I run HD resolutions with a VGA cable?

Yes you can. The VGA connector has no resolution limit. But the Macbook GPU can only output up to 1920x1200 or something on a single link connection. Do note that VGA loses quality at higher resolutions.
