I have a Macbook (white) and an HDTV. I want to connect the HDTV to my Macbook and use it as if it were a monitor.
I have an Apple Mini DVI to VGA Adapter. What else do I need?

assuming your mini dvi fits into your macbook and your hdtv has a vga port, you need a vga cable to connect from your laptop (the adapter in your laptop) to your TV.

that will handle the video side of things.

Thats all you need then, the Mini DVI to VGA adapter and a male to male vga cable to hook into your miini DVI - VGA adapter and the other end into your TV

Regarding sound: Can I just use speakers and connect it to my laptop (like I usually do?) Do I have to connect it to the TV?

Also, would I need an HDMI connector or something to connect to my HDTV?

if your HDTV requires HDMI... not all are the same, it depends what inputs yours has....

and yes you can connect speakers to your laptop.. or to your sound system or TV.. but it depends on what inputs your sound system and/or tv has...

    Ok, great.
Now, would I be able to use the TV as if it were another monitor? I've actually searched on the Internet and saw either the TV mirroring the Macbook or being used to watch movies.

Dont forget to change the Playback device to whatever youre going to use; headphones; speakers, tv.

    HDMI ports rock!

Okay. So I hooked everything up. It actually works. Thank you.

I'm just not satisfied with the resolution. Sometimes the font is fuzzy, if you know what I mean. I guess I understand because it's a TV and not a monitor. But is there anything I can do? I've tried all of the screen resolution under display preferences.
