Hello, I,m considering buying MBP with my student ADC discount(already approved and have it as an asset hehe).

Please understand I,m a computer programmer, guess many of us are our days :) and I,m very interested in MAC OS X as development machine with all kinda nice and interesting tools(Textmate and so on ) as well as robust Linux system.

The problem is that I have a windows laptop in my room as well(xps m1710), and I think it could be very difficult to live in a mixed environment(for example they will share a NAS external hard drive , but it cannot be formatted in fat32 (because i have some .iso images that are larger then 4gb) so i will have to make it unreadable/unwritable for MAC or PC)

I also wanted to confirm , how bad is gaming under BootCamp, i heard people saying that chassis becomes scorching hot.

P.S Excuse me for my English. English is not my native language. Thank you

bootcamp isn't the best but it works, and it does get hot. but if you're going to use an external harddrive, i'd just get a PC.

The NAS should not be an issue because it is on a network so the network does all of the translation as far as format goes. As for gamin, it will get rather hot, but why would you use the Apple over your XPS for gaming anyway? I have been using 2 PCs and a Mac on the same network for a while now and have had no major issues. And now that I have an Airport base station, I have no issues at all. Everything shares beautifully.

No of course not XPS is by far superior at least for now. I would just rather fully utilize all of the capacities( and with this video card is very capable of mid setting gaming). As for hard drive example I guess i,m just looking for bull**** excuses(I,m having hard time imagining what could possible be a problem in terms of networking(sharing easy, ever remote control works fine with tools like VNC). I,m just afraid to leave PC :) was looking at asus V1S before, almost the same machine performance wise, plus very light as well
