I recently lost my Command and Conquer 3 (Windows version) disc. My friend has the same game, and I was wondering whether it'd be possible to copy the data from it onto my hard drive, and then burn it to another DVD.
Am I right in thinking that this is legal and OK, since I will be using my own individual CD-key, and not his? All I'm looking to do is replace my disc, but still use my own purchased key.

It probably isn't legal, you should look in the EULA for that product for more info... but when I want to make backup copies I find that you need to either copy directly to a new DVD or create an ISO. Copying to the HDD then back to a DVD probably won't work. Also, you may run into DRM junk that the game maker puts onto the DVD... and I don't think we're supposed to talk about how to bypass that on these forums (google is your friend).

You can try to rip the DVD, with software like 'mac the ripper'. Here in the Netherlands it is illegal, to make copies of purchased games/dvd's even if it's for your own personal use.
Copying a DVD?
