Are the new Macbook Pros equipped with Centrino 2 "P" chips? I thought they were but today I looked at all of them and all of them had specs of "T" Core 2 duo not Centrino 2. Now a days all the new notebooks come out with P Centrino 2 chips. Is Apple behind?

if you are thinking the chips are "technologically" behind in architecture, no. the chip (T9400) in the new macbook pros are montevina based chips.

"T" usually takes 35W while "P" 25W....seems to be a big difference in battery life but in reality maybe 10-20 minutes to its nearest "P" relative with similar clockspeed.

And P is more expensive than T in the same speed.

hmmm... i dont find this to be true. that T you mentioned might be the previous generation one.

the T series feature 6mb of cache. double that of the P series (3mb).

    from lenovo.com.au for T500.

    Core 2 Duo P8400 (2.26GHz 1066MHz 3MBL2)
    Core 2 Duo P8600 (2.40GHz 1066MHz 3MBL2) [add AUD$73.11]
    Core 2 Duo T9400 (2.53GHz, 6MB L2,1066MHz) [add AUD$234.01]
    Core 2 Duo T9600 (2.8GHz 1066MHz 6MBL2) [add AUD$698.42]

P or T doesn't really say anything about cache, for example: P9500 also has 6MB cache.

The T9400 is generally cheaper than P9500.

The difference between P and T is the TDP.

    Quoted for truth.
