I've got a MacBook Pro 17" Early-2010 with Intel Arrandale (Core i5) and my Mac OS X 10.6.3 Installation DVD has dropped dead. I tried to download a Mac OS X 10.6.3 Retail DVD from the web but it seems to be of a early revision than the one shipping with the Early-2010 MacBook Pro models so my computer wont boot from it, neither as a DVD or from USB device.
Is there anywhere I can download a Mac OS X Snow Leopard DVD that's compatible with my MacBook Pro 17" 2010 model? Currently I've got a MacBook Pro 17" without any operating system and no OS X image to boot from.

Its illegal to download a Mac OS X installation DVD, if you're really hard up for a disk call Apple about getting a new one or go to an Apple store and buy a OS X 10.6 DVD for 29$

This actually won't work. The retail DVD from apple won't install properly on your machine.
You'll need to call apple and have them send you a replacement disc (there will be a small fee for this)
or - find a friend who also owns the 17" arrandale mbp and borrow their disc. -
So the only way to get my DVD replaced as a result of the DVD-drive on my MacBook Pro destroyed it is paying 29$?

No. The $29 retail DVD will NOT WORK.
You'll have to call apple and special order a replacement disc for your machine. They will charge you something for this, but not $29.
Alternatively, if your machine is under warranty and your DVD drive is not functioning properly and destroyed the disc, you can bring it in, get it fixed and get your disc replaced as well.
If your dvd drive is functioning perfectly (they will test it) they may not want to replace the disc free of charge. -
I called them and they requested 164 NOK = about 29$ for a replacement disc.
You think I'll get a new one if I bring it in and the DVD is defective?
How long does it take for it to get replaced? -
How did your installation disk just, "drop dead"? Did you accidentally scratch it up?
If it truly is a corrupted disk, if you take it to the Apple store, they should be able to just hand you another. Call to make sure. -
The optical drive made a circle scratch throughout the entire disc.

I had occasion to order replacement media for one of my MB's. It took about a week to arrive and cost me $20.00.
Apple's service was impeccable. -
I would get the drive replaced before I put a $20 disk in.

Out of curiosity, why wont it work properly? I have a retail 10.6 disk that I got before getting my 2010 MBP 13" and figured it would work. Or does it only apply to the newer i series macs that don't work with the retail disk?

Certain newer Macs will require a certain version of OSX to work... meaning if it needs 10.6.5+ but the retail disc is only 10.6.3 or whatever... it won't work. On many machines the retail disc would work fine.
