Red_Dragon it scored 2200 on 1280*800. Afaik that is fine for these kind of cards.

Similar to Sony Z with 9300M GS and Sony SR/Lenovo U330 with Ati HD370.

I think 2200 3dmark06 points for the 9400M is about right. If you look at the other comparable laptops, the 9300M GS scored 1600 and the 8400M GS received a 1400.

Some people have been reporting >2000 with Sony Z and 9300M GS I believe.

    yumyum. :)

Looks fabulous. I went to the Apple store 2 days ago (I was around the area) to check them out, and they do feel quite sturdy, and they look really nice. :)

I totally agree with your review for the most part. Got my Macbook about two days ago. First apple, and I am loving it. Testing battery life right now...so far 1:35 mins gone, and its at 62%...not as good as I hoped.

I believe that the USA edition does not, while Canada does - so it may differ for each country. :)

i don't think the Canadian does. Yesterday I was using it in a dimly lit room, and no light came on.

All you have to do to check is to cover up the camera and the area around it. The light sensor is close to the iSight.

There's no backlit keyboard on the 2ghz model which is a pity and the light sensor near the isight only acts as an ambient light control for the screen.

The macbook you have (2.4ghz version) does have the backlit keyboard and there should be controls in your system preferences. The cheaper macbook (the one I have) doesn't come that :(

Right -- what I haven't figured out yet is whether the keyboard control is also dynamically adjusted (as the lcd already is) by the ALS, or not. At the moment I'm too lazy to pull the thing out and sit in the dark to work on this .

I'm looking at the MacBook and the U6V....which one would you say is faster for light gaming? or roughly the same?

The macbook might be slightly better for gaming but I don't think it's by much due to the DDR3 ram. The 9300M GS in the Asus U6V is actually a 9400M GS, but I guess there is some agreement between nvidia and apple, and nvidia had to change all their 9400M GPUs to 9300M prior to the new macbook/mbp launch.
Here's a screen shot of several GPU monitoring software on the Asus U6V

Other things that you may take to consideration is that the macbook will be heavier and lacks some of the basic interface ports (compared to the U6V, the macbook is missing eSATA, HDMI, media card reader, an extra USB port and express card slot). Battery life will be significantly better on the macbook and the build quality may even be slightly better than the Asus.

Battery life better on the MacBook...hmmmm. It's still a tough decision... :D But I do have an eSata external HD....still tough :D

Yeah, they each have their own pros and cons... you'll need to see what factors are most important to you and go from there.

I like the new MB look and respect it's features. In the next 3 years or so when I consider an update, it will be instantly on my list.

Edit: It looks like the MB could steal some sales from the MBP though.

I jumped on the $1599 one @ Bestbuy -- Dell F-ed with me for four days on my (defective) mini -- I'm not looking back -- this thing is the cat's arse ;)

    Back-2-Mac (after 10 long years absence ;)

(ps. my other 'ride' is an upgraded Dell M90 -- a beast -- this thing is light, powerful, COOL -- truly pleasant!)

Honestly, I can't leave home without it :p
Even though I have to bring my Asus with me everyday to my office, I still lug my MacBook with me. It's just so comfortable to use while surfing online or word processing. I think I may just keep it a little longer than I had anticipated :D

ALS does dynamically control both the keyboard AND the lcd brightness, I watched it work :D.

Wow... that's actually a little cheaper than the US! That reminded me of last nights Letterman show with Chris Rock when he said he went to a currency exchange at the airport in England to exchange $3000 USD...... and all he got was a loaf of bread. :p

Glad you found everything working alright :)

Not sure if I should post this here but...

So what do I have to check even I get my MB/MBP? Besides dead/stuck pixels?

I know someone made a "dummies" guide but I can't find it now.

    Check for....
    cosmetic condition
Contents in the box (drivers, osx disk, manuals, power adapter etc)
CPU, GPU, hard drive and ram (to do this, go to your apple icon in the top left and select "about this mac")
Make sure you update the software

Ok I've had my new MBP for about in hour now! This is my first mac!

Things I like - the look/design and screen

Thing I don't like - well the keyboard is a bit different, and maybe my hands are small cause sometimes I hit the spaces in between keys but overall its still good. Need some time to adjust.

Oh and dragging with the touchpad is confusing and I still haven't gotten the hang of it yet.

Things that confuse me - installing programs! =)

Yeah, I know a wholesaler, who could get me one for $2000 cheaper than retail.

Thanks, loved my old MacBook apart from a couple of issues, which Apple seem to have fixed, so I'm hoping to really enjoy it.

Assuming that you mean the Macbook, it has Mini display port which carries digital video and audio.

Sofar I have not seen any mDP to HDMI cables.

The 2GHZ MB sells for $1299 for $300 more, you get the 2.4GHZ, lighted keyboard, and 250GB instead of 160GB.

Doesn't seem like it's $300 worth of upgrades to me.

I'm amazed at how Apple's prices get worse every year and with these economic conditions.
