DVD Drive not showing up!

So i'm having another issue now with my MBP. The DVD Drive isn't showing up in windows or in osx. The drive is physically working because i put in a DVD but now it's stuck. When i press the eject button in osx nothing happens. I don't even see a option for a d: drive in windows.

could be a problem with the drive.... if you need to get the disc out, you should be able to do so by holding down the eject button when you turn on the machine, before it gets into an OS.

 

The drive doesn't show up under osx either under diskburning. It shows as no device can be found. I can hear the drive spin up everytime i start up.

Going to try to reset my PRAM now to see if i can get it back.

 

Alright i fixed it. I had to crack open my machine again. The person who replaced my logic board at apple did not connect my DVD drive back correctly. I reconnected the cable and now it's working again.

Very risky. Maybe I'm just a coward, but I never open any laptop--period.

 

you could've asked for a new one over at the apple store. sometimes, i'm tempted to overclock my gpu until it dies and then head over to the apple store but i love my laptop too much to do that and this is illegal.(not covered under warranty)

 

If you still have warranty remaining on your laptop, opening it up yourself is not recommended as it may void your warranty. The best line of action would be to have it repaired by the manufacturer.

 

I have no warranty on the machine so therefore i'm on my own. The reason the logic board was replaced was because of the Nvidia card failure.

And it's pretty easy to replace stuff yourself. The guides at ifixit are very helpful.

 

unless you seriously mess it up opening it, they wont know... I've done Apple warranty work, and even when we could tell someone opened it, we still covered things we could tell they didn't damage more than likely. I'm not saying to open up your machine if you don't know what your doing, but if your familiar with working on laptops, I wouldn't worry about it too much. I've opened quite a few up since I stopped doing Apple warranty work to check out for other people, and never had Apple have a problem still doing warranty repairs on them.

of course if you damage something, or it looks like you did by opening it.. well you could have that broken part no longer covered under warranty, but its unlikely they'll void the entire warranty, maybe if you get a real jerk tech.
