I have just bought Toast and just tried to burn a first project. I successfully burnt a couple of divx format files on a DVD, but when I try to open the DVD on a Windows XP notebook, the DVD drive doesn't recognize the disk.

Does anyone know what the reason could be for that?

I'm assuming you burnt a Data Disc? If so, did you select Mac Only in the menu of the left? If you selected Mac & PC, what computer are you trying to read the disc from, and what format is your DVD (like +R or whatever)?

No, I burnt as video (and then Divx)...
Trying to read it from an ASUS V1J; the DVD is +R format.

Do other burnt DVD+R discs work just fine? You might otherwise want to check if there's a firmware update for your drive.

There is usually an option for mac only, otherwise i know some drives dont like +r's

It's the first one I tried. By the way, there's an option saying 'catalog disc contents' (mac only), could that be of relevance to the problem?

@ sulk - I see where you're coming from, but that can only be selected when writing a data DVD (afaik).

Edit: I might add that also Divx encoding is turned on 'automatic'

Well thats weird, maybe try burning some other (data) dvds and see if it works. Although ive never personally used a divx video dvd before, so i cant say how that works.

Could just be divx video dvds and it doesnt like?

I had a similar problem once and realised its because I used poor quality blank disks. Try burning the same project again, but this time select the slowest burn speed. It'll take twice as long to burn, but that always worked for me. (also, untick cataloging)

I guess it's the dvd drive of the ASUS. Tried it in two other notebooks and it worked well. Thanks for the support anyway guys!
