And..... on my MacBook Pro the game quits unexpectedly as soon as I click to launch it! YAY! Thanks Blizzard!

Anyone with more luck?

The game is 8 years old. Be happy that anything is coming out for it, and that there are still servers for you to (not) play on.
-
Oh I'm thrilled that the game is still not playable on Intel Macs.

I think, and this is just my opinion, that it might not be Blizzard's fault... I think trying to run that on OSX might be your issue. Sometimes games like that have unexpected problems when they run on an OS that the game wasn't originally made for...
Please don't flame on me because I am NOT trying to bash OSX, just what I think might be happening...
Hope you figure it out! -
Sure, it might not be Blizzard's fault, but then they shouldn't go around announcing/releasing patches that don't work.
-
did it work on mac before the patch came out?
-
All Blizzard games are Mac/Windows compatible. I wish I could be more helpful, but I haven't played D2 for years.

well it sucks to own a mac then................

I just installed it on my macbook air and it works like a charm, a few things to do is:
1. Download the Mac OS X native installer from blizzards site (I'm sure you did this if you installed it.
2. Do a Full install of the game
3. Get the latest patch from Blizzard 1.12 and install it before running the game.
4. Once the patch is installed load the program it should bring you to Diablo 2 Options before it loads the game, this is the critical part if you launch it at it's current setting it'll crash. Click on configure video and ensure you set it to OpenGL and more specifically millions of colors.
5. Launch the game and it'll work. To ensure this worked I tryed it on my wife's macbook for you and it launched fine. Albeit they are both integrated GFX cards but they are 2 "different" cards.... Hope it helps.. I no longer have my Macbook Pro unfortunately to try it there for ya -
Thanks Durious, but unfortunately that won't work. You can't even load that options menu before the game crashes. It crashes the instant you load the executable file. It's a bug related to the Nvidia cards only, so it will still work fine on integrated/ATi video solutions. Hopefully Apple will tweak their drivers for their next update release..
