I hear (besides the size) that there is a difference between the 17" MBP screen and the 15"....something about one of them not using the latest cool technology.
Can someone shed some light on this for me? I am considering the 15" MBP...and im trying to wait til the next refresh but I want to be sure it has the "best" screen.
Thanks!

the current 15" macbook pro has an LED backlit screen, while the 17" does not have this technology yet. LED uses less power than a typical LCD monitor and if you search the forum you can see comparison shots from the old vs. new technology. hope that helped a little bit

The 17" MBP should be updated with the brighter LED in a couple of weeks. The LED screens are much brighter, more energy efficient, and better for the environment at disposal and reclamation time. Both the 15" and 17" MBP will also receive the multitouch trackpad (like the MacBook Air) and the new Penryn processors at the same time the 17" goes LED. I would suggest you hold on a little longer before making your purchase unless you absolutely need your laptop today.

17 inch = 2.4 ghz processor 256 mb Vram, 160 gig HDD 5400..$2800 -

yeah if you want to buy in february, buy it in february. they should update the macbook pro soon.
it won't be a crucial update though. if you need it don't wait around for them to update, especially if you are looking at a 15" machine anyway. -
Don't forget that the 17" has a larger resolution then the 15" 1440x900

stealthsniper96 What Was I Thinkin'?
this page has a pretty good comparison of the 2. -
Anyway, yeah, the 15.4-inch uses LED-backlighting, so its brighter and uses less energy. However, the 17-inch, using the conventional CCFL-backlighting is not bad anyway, plus it gives the option of a higher resolution from 1680x1050 to 1920x1200, whereas the 15.4-inch MBP is set at 1440x900. -
