Hello,
I have some interest in getting a new latop and I was thinking about trying out a Mac. The one thing that turns me off the most though is how expensive they are. Does Apple ever do sales or coupons or anything like that? Or do they do any decent discounts on their older models when they come out with something new?
I'm not a student anymore and they unfortunately didn't have my school on the list anyways.
I would also like to get it from a retailer for two reasons. There'd be no wear and tear on the laptop at all and because my company offers a 20% reimbursement on computer purchases. It might be possible to get a friend to purchase it for me who is a student, but I don't know if the 20% reimbursement would work when it's under someone else's name.
Thanks,
Tabalt

Apple doesn't do sales, but third-party resellers usually do. Best Buy and Future Shop in Canada sometimes have $50-150 off Macs, so yeah.

Newegg would be good to.

Apple does offer discounts to employees and company partners such as Intel, Motorola, Verizon, etc.. You might check with your company or at the local Apple Store to see if you qualify.
-
I'll have to check all this out. Thanks a bunch guys!

Besides the $100 student discount, or if you're a teacher I think, don't they have something for people who work for the city? I don't remember exactly. Maybe it's only schools.

Also check the clearance section at store.apple.com , as well as the refurbished units. When new models come out, they discount the old ones in clearance.

As Modly said, checkout their refurbished section and you'll find some decent bargains. Apple is pretty good at offering notebooks in good form and sometimes you can get an older line at 3-40% their original prices. It also comes with their latest OS.

My job also does that 20% reimbursment. But I know for sure that they wont accept it if its in someone elses name. But I think you would benefit more from the 20% than the student discount, Im lucky enough to have gotten both

You can just pick a school and say you go there. They are pretty chill about handing out the student discount. If you order it online you can literally just pick a store...
200 student discount on a macbook pro = 1799
student price - 20% of student price = 1439.2
looks like you might swing a macbook pro for under 1500, i would recommend apple care to extend your warranty to 3 years from one. also, certain credit cards can double the manufacturer warranty (From 1 year to 2), so you might elect to go that route if its an option. buy it when you NEED it because i think they are updating the machine soon. -
Its nice that they don't do any checks and that students don't have to go through the hassle of having to send a student id/transcript but if others abuse the system, than that just ruins it for the students/teachers that the discount is meant for.
