Just like the title says, do they all have glossys? I am in the market to get my wife a notebook (she uses my MBP too much!) and have considered the 12" PB 1.5 or a Macbook. But I DO NOT want the glossy screen. Personal preference I guess. I just think the Matte is easier on the eyes.

I am really interested to know if this is just personal preference for everyone or their is more to it in terms of scientific reasoning as which one is better for the eyes, face ...glossy or matte screen?

All macbooks have glossy screens, the macbook pro gives you an option.

I think it's a less of a strain on my eyes personally. Especially in my work and school environment with overhead Fluorescent lights. That said, I've also heard that the Matte screens are better for graphics as they can display better color management. Not sure how true this is but it's matte or nothing for me! :)

ugh that's what I was afraid of. Guess it's going to be eBay or bust for a decent 12".

Any ideas if the new 12" MBP will give us the option too?

There may never even be a 12inch MBP. Although I'm sure there will be; however, I don't see it being a 12 inch, as that really wouldn't fit into the line. I think it would be the same size as the MacBook, just a Pro version.

That's possible but I honestly think Apple would be dumb to not introduce an ultra-portable. Weighing less that 4-5 lbs and less than an inch thick. I see this happening as a rival to the XPS 12" and a couple of the Sony's.

Why? There was a 12" powerbook. There should be a 12" MBP as well.

The rumors about it seem pretty founded, though it may not be released until Leopard, or it may be out when the Santa Rosa refresh is done.

But as far as glossy vs. matte... Glossy is generally easier on the eyes, unless you have a lot of glare. IMHO, the MB and MBP tend to have less glare than other glossy screens I've used (Sonys are the worst in my experience). They look better, but give slightly less color accuracy. But really, the difference in colors between a glossy and matte are only going to really be noticeable by a high end graphic designer who will be taking digital imaging to print. And doing graphics for web design... well, differences in the users monitors will make a bigger difference then if you develop on a quality glossy screen. Just mho...

There was also a 12inch iBook. But I guess I'm not say there won't be one, it would just seem unbalanced to me if there was.

just get her a used Macbook Pro with the matte screen. Im not sure if she will enjoy a smaller screen after using your 15.4" Macbook Pro...at least thats how I felt when I had my Macbook.

If this macbook's for your wife, why don't you ask your WIFE what her preference is? It's her computer after all.
