I read that the white Macbooks are notorious for getting ugly discolorations, mostly at the palmrest area, but these "reviews" are old and only apply to the older Macbook models. I picked up from somewhere that the new models are made with a different kind of material. Is this true? I just bought a 2008 white Macbook and was wondering if I should take preventive measures against staining as early as now. Thanks.

My late-2007 model has no such problems whatsoever.

I also have a late 2007 model... I haven't seen any nasty discolouration (yet!), but I do notice the paint starting to wear a bit (i.e. palmrest and some keyboard keys getting "shiny"). However, that's expected... with pretty much all notebook computers.

I have a late 2006 model. No discolourations. It just gets dirty after a few months use, but that's easily remedied by wiping with a damp cloth.

get a macsheild from ebay for about 40$
it protects front, back, webcam, palmrests, each key, track pad & its button. Best is all is precut to perfection.
I applied it on my 2008 white MacBook. -
Apple recalled the palm rest area and changed the material it was originally made of. No longer a problem! :-D
Unless you don't wash your hands. -
I have a 2007 model and it doesn't discolour

the plastic on the newer MBs is of cheaper quality, at least to me. i have a CD 1.83, and had a 2.2 C2D.
the C2D seemed to get marked up much easier. along with some sort of sanding effect along the entire outer edge of the keyboard piece, not happy with that.
i wasnt impressed at all with the 2.2 quality wise. -
Late 07 Santa Rosa Whitebook here. Palmrests are stained. Thinking of *****ing to Apple, because it drops the resale value.

Do the white 2008 edition Macbooks still get discolored/stained?
