I like them a lot - they are nice looking, simple icons - much better than Tiger's ones. They are environment friendly too - made of recycled paper. I have heard many people complaining about them... so what is your opinion?

They are nice, yes, but they should've done something else with the user folders. The documents, movies, music, downloads, etc. I mean everytime I click on my user stack I have to stop and look at each icon to see where is the one I'm looking for. Pain in the ass...

Now that I look at that picture it looks easy to spot, but trust me, I usually work very fast on my computer, click click boom, and when I click on that stack there is a considerable "lag" in trying to find the icon I'm looking for, something that is easily remedied by adding either color, or app-like icons to each of those folders. I guess I'll just wait until candybar is released for leopard.

If you're having trouble identifying your stacks check this out. Maybe you've already seen that?

I'm not a big fan. I really think apple could have done a bit more for the folders. At the very least have the option to revert to tiger folders, at best have several options of folder styles/themes to choose from.

Is there any way to change a folder icon yourself, say if I made a set in illustrator, could I make my folders into those?

You guys do know that you can change the icons in Leopard in the same way that you did in Tiger, right? Or did I miss something?

    Mac 101: Change Your Icons

P.S. I like the new folder icons. ;)

I hadn't seen that, thanks Xander. My problem however lies in not being able to identify the folders within the stack, not the stack itself.

Yeah I know, I'm just lazy, so I'd rather moan about the fact that the default ones can't be easily told apart. :p

Ah, see I didn't know how to go about changing icons in Tiger either, but that's just because I never really bothered to look for a way.

So we're talking about the look of these folders?

They're just blue folders with a little picture on them. What's there to love about them?
What happens when you mouse over one? Does it open and do anything (animation)?
They're not bad looking, but they seem pretty plain.

Honestly, they are just folders. Never really think much about their looks.

They're OK I guess. It's definitely a step in the right direction to remove the aging lickable aqua folders. But, Apple should have put more contrast on to the folder engravings so that by just glancing at them we could tell what each folder is for, instead of squinting at them.

They're not too bad. I do feel its not as "flashy" as folders in Tiger, which is ironic as Leopard is full of "flashy" stuff like the reflective Dock.

don't complain about something if you mention that you are to lazy to do something, haha.

new icons are much better than Tigers, fit the OS much much more.

It will be good if we had 2-3 sets of standard icons we can swap without looking for 3rd party sets.

    I don't have Leopard yet.

That said, the new icons are nicely understated and do fit the OS better. However they have too low contrast (too understated) so telling them apart at a glance is not good. Also the live file preview "feature" is a good idea, in theory. In reality it's not such a good idea, 'cause you're looking for a morphing target.... Only way to make it less user friendly would be to have it switch position with other icons at random ;)
