Do you like the sharp edges of MBA? Imagine a MBP with the same?

My MBP will soon be 6-7 month old soon and after my recent visit to a Apple retailler i could not stop wondering if the new MBP will have MBA thinness how many people will have a problem with that.

I mean MBP is not light, hell if it had a thin edge with its weight it might end up cutting into the skin. I dont expect Apple will not include any GPU in the thin MBP since MBP allready has 6770m and 6750m.

I for one would have a problem with a thin & heavy 15incher but if the same has a straight faces on all sides like that Voodoo laptop it would be quite a sucess.

I guess if they made it like that and stuck it in a guillotine there would be a problem... but I don't understand why there would be an issue otherwise.

I don't really understand either especially since the MBA doesn't really have sharp edges. I know there is that one picture of someone using a MBA to slice a cake but I could also use my face to do the same job (cutting a cake is like cutting air).

Additionally, if Apple were to release a super thin notebook with a large display (a 15" MBA), they definitely wouldn't have it be in the same weight class as the 15" MBP. Apple would drastically reduce both the footprint and weight of a large thin and light before releasing it. Otherwise that notebook would have an extremely high density and negate any reasoning for having a thin and light.

Either way, it definitely wouldn't cause any issues unless Apple decides to file the edges down to razor blades. If anything, the 15" MBP would be more dangerous since you could whack someone's head with that thing and really do some damage whereas a MBA would need excessive force and sharpening to cut the skin.

How would they get it to be razor thin and have an ODD?

although the 11 inch air i had did have a tapered edge it was not sharp at all. not remotely as sharp as the edge of a macbook pro is now. the macbook pro edge by the palm rests practically cut your wrists. that cornered edge is way sharper then an air, the air edge is rounded.

not sure what you're talking about....the MBA edges have been intentionally smoothed to AVOID the complaints from MBP users. even the corners of the indent used to open the lid aren't sharp.

i'm talking about the second version of the 11" MBA...maybe the first version still had sharp edges?

I think the OP is asking about if a laptop with the thin form-factor of the mba had the weight of a current mbp... and if that would that cause problems such as injury to the owner.

I don't think that should be a concern.

They really can't make the MBP an MBA with all the ports and ODD.

I think the possibility of a 15" version of the MBA is quite high. I don't think it would carry the Pro name as when people go for any of Apple's professional systems, they usually want a do-all system. This is why the 15" and 17" MBP will still be around. Should Apple introduce a 15" MBA, I have a feeling that it will be the replacement for the 13" MBP.

A 15" MBA would not be a replacement for the 13" MBP simply because of the large price differences. Right now, Apple can get away with replacing the 13" MBP with the 13" MBA simply because the MBA is similarly priced. Unless Apple decreases the price of the 13" MBA and starts the 15" MBA at $1200, it isn't going to replace the 13" MBP. I don't see Apple pricing a fully specced 15" MBA at $1500 (which is around the cost of both the 13" MBA and 13" MBP top models) when the 13" MBA is already at that price. If anything, Apple is going to continue to use the MBA line to compliment their MBP line as they have done since the introduction of the MBA.
