I found a Macbook Retina 15" 2013 512GB SSD and 16GB ram for $900. So I automatically think scam. I contact the guy and he says that his girlfriends brother works for Apple and is in charge of distribution, and that he bought 300 of these computers for $400 a piece and is now selling them for $900.

I am pretty sure this is a scam, but the guy has 84 positive 100% feedback.

    I. Pretty sure Apple doesn't directly sell their hardware like at, at least not to employees. This sounds like a complete scam to me. Even if he did magically buy these at $400 a piece, buying 300 units would have cost them $120,000 upfront. I have yet to know any Apple employee, aside from the people high up, that could afford to just plop down a $120,000 bet that they would at least get that back. I know Apple does run some deals with educational systems, businesses, and government agencies but I'm pretty sure they don't with their employees.

You can take the gamble but this screams "scam" especially since they started involving their girlfriend's, cousin's, dog's, doctor's, aunt's, Apple employee boyfriend. That seems way too complex of a setup.

Have you ever heard the phrase, "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is?" And regarding feedback, if that rating is mostly as a buyer, it's absolutely worthless.

Like what the above two said, that sounds absolutely like a scam. I don't know of any legit business that'd involve their family/friends in the way you describe, let alone the supposed $400/Macbook. That SSD and the display alone would be well over $400..

Besides, Apple and "selling at a loss" are practically mutually exclusive anyway.

Don't worry guys, I resisted the temptation to at least give it a shot. Now that I think about it, it sounds absolutely 100% like a scam.

I have business relations with a few Apple stores, and the business managers have told me, time and time again, that employees don't get any real discounts beyond what they give to businesses (like mine). It's not anything exciting. The last stuff I bought, the discount didn't even balance out the tax.

For future reference, since you mentioned the person had feedback, look at their prior sales. If they went from selling power tools and bags of concrete to MacBook Pro Retinas, suddenly, HMMMM.... Hacked account.

Additionally, if most of teh feedback is items that he/she bought then it's essentially useless to his credibility as a seller.
