I dont follow MBP refreshes, but since I am considering it for my next notebook purchase, I wanted to know when is next MBP refresh arriving and if apple does just one refresh of its notebooks each year or more than one? Anything out yet what will the refresh bring?
-
There are normally 2. One big one, and then a minor cpu/spec bump around 6 months later.... normally that one coincides with the back to school promo

Historically, MBPs are updated about every 200 days. As underpantman said, 1 update is "big" and the following is usually just a spec bump. And if you look on a bigger scale, the external design is usually updated every 2-3 yrs, so I wouldn't be expecting an external design change until early 2011.

I don't see how you get that figure. The last macbook pro didn't get a design change at ALL for almost 6 years, all the way back to the powerbook g4. And even for almost 8 years back the design changed almost none. -
Yeah, MBP remained almost unchanged for years until the unibody ones came out. "Major" updates have only been recent and don't happen often. We will probably only see spec bumps for the next year or two.
-
It's look like we are not going to get a refresh today
.
-
Awe, come on red. It's next Tuesday that the MBP's get their refresh.
It's always next Tuesday. Always..............really. -
LOL, I was going to say next month ... or the one after that
-
Or whenever they want too. Next Tuesday, Next Tuesday lets hope so *finger crossed*
I'm tired of waiting!! Then it does give me more time to save up

They probably have them completely ready to go... but they don't want to release them until a week or so after the iPad starts shipping, for several reasons.
-
The new MacBook Pro will be released in 2012. The price of it is what will cause the end of the world.
-
There yo have it folks. This is sig worthy. Can we Sticky this?

the ipad comes out in like 2 weeks now. i doubt they will release the new macbook pros until at least 2 weeks after the ipad launch. the last thing they want to do is cannibalize their own sales with their own product refreshes.
they want the ipad to sell as well as possible, for sure. -
How much is usually the price difference between the old and new model after a refresh?
-
None, same price, except the current macbook pros are so outdated, when they do update to i5s, your looking at 25-50% change in value/resale.
I'm really surprised they haven't at least price dropped the macs, I mean $2k for an core 2 is pretty ridiculous now. I guess they just want to make a killing milking their supply of core 2s. -
Wow if the price stays the same then I'm definitely going to wait for the refresh.
-
i am also waiting for the new refresh , i will not pay 2k$ for another c2d macbook
-
but that argument supposes that people interested in an iPad would also be interested in a MBP? and that that'd have to choose one over the other?
Sorry...I don't see any overlap at all. 2 completely separate markets. -
I don't see a large overlap in the markets outside people who buy as fashion/status symbols who aren't too concerned w/ function. I do see limited store/support/warehouse resources which means multiple product launches raises risk. I definitely think Apple is late to the Core i party but if you throw a Macbook refresh in, there's definitely the possibility to overwhelm their support resources mixed in w/ the iPad.
Should anything go wrong(remember registration outages of the iPhone?) or screen color issues and suddenly your whole support network is in disarray trying to handle customers. Admittedly early adopters are used to nightmares getting started but outside of an artificial shortage tactic, I don't see Apple wanting a rocky product launch. Don't forget unless they're the ones scalping iPads on Ebay, they're not gaining any of the consumer surplus from inflated sales prices. -
i also dont see them releasing their refresh until at least the release date of the iPad, which is shameful. their laptops are notoriously always behind the competition. if it wasnt for their design, i doubt anyone would wait for it because of the price.

any links with all apple MBP and MB refreshes on a page
-
Designs can be copied and improvised...
-
Yeah, I'm kind of disappointed at their tardiness regarding this round of Mac updates, but I guess they are focusing on iPad. I'm sure the Macs are ready, they're just holding onto them for now
.
But yeah, I'd say new Mac notebooks arrive in mid or late April, after the iPad and in a prime position to start the summer notebook-hunting season.
Does Apple have a trend of doing multiple MBP refreshes a year?
