    Hey,

Wasn't really looking for actual help, I was just looking for responses from people who actually decide to go with this set up, compared to people who get 15" with an external.

    The link does help though!

    oh :p
I pretty sure it is a good idea to hook up a 13" with an external monitor. Although the macbook monitor is better than a samsung TFT monitor, I still feeling better to use a bigger monitor. Guess this is the same with a 17" MBP, if it is possible, go bigger, feel better. I imagine a 17" MBP with an external will be many times sweeter. :D

I have desktops for desktop use but I would imagine that the dot pitch difference between the 23/24-into-17 of the MBP would be slightly to immensely distracting.

I've only got a single-link miniDP adapter so I can shoot a pic with a 23" ACD if that interests you.

My Dad has a 17inch PC connected to a 22 inch monitor, and the whole display is huge. If you mirror the screens, you will have a vast landscape to work with! ;)

I had this setup at home and at work (17 MPB x 24 inch Dell and 17 MBP x 20 inch Dell (1600x1200) + 17 inch Dell via USB-VGA converter). I've gone back to using desktops for those monitors. I still use the 17 inch MBP + 20 inch Dell (1680x1050) at another residence where I work. It is not optimal going from the different pitches but it does provide much more usable space.

I do, a 17" MBP 2.4ghz Santa Rosa platform machine, with 4gb, 160gb HDD, 1920x1200 display, plugged into a Apple 20" Cinema Display, ($350, 1 month old on ebay son!)

Love it. Have it. I believe that answers your question?

Actually, you would have 2 screens with the same image, so, if your eyes are on the side of your head, this would be a great plan.

Yeah, these are the type of responses I'm looking for.

I just ordered a 17 inch, and I was stuck between the 15 and 17 for a while.

I'm going to use an external display, so I wasn't sure how necessary the 17 inch would be...but using it as dual screen is great too.

I was at the store picking up the 17 and 15 back and forth... the 5 is a bit smaller, but the 17 is not THAT much bigger...it's a beast tho, definitely.
