I am playing games like Modern Warfare 2, L4D2, GTA4, BF2 non stop. I have been playing for about 14 hours a day for the last 5 days, and obviously the fans are going at max speed non stop.
Will this extended heating damage/reduce the life of the laptop?

more than likely.. the hotter electronics run for longer periods of time, can contribute to failure... if your fans are gong 6000 rpm for 14 hours a day, every day... I'd bet on your fans failing long before the hardware.

Yes heating will wear down the components, but if you have any sort of warranty, then I wouldn't worry about it. Chances are you'll be looking for an upgrade before the hardware fails. Just enjoy Macbook and gaming and don't worry about it

hah. i thought you meant your lifespan.
nothing to worry about as far as your computer. -
It'll wear down any computer, as far as I'm concerned. Chances are though, you'll want a new one before it breaks.
-
Don't worry about it. You are enjoy using it for gaming, why worrying about its lifespan?

I wouldn't worry about it too much. but it might be a good idea to monitor the temps more closely. Because the macbook pros cooling systems aren't really designed for intense gaming.

Don't worry, ive been using my laptop like that for 2 years. To bad I have an nvidia 8 series grafic card, they al tend to overheat and collaps after to much use. But since I bought a laptopcooler I don't get black screens during gaming anymore so perhaphs you should get one too?

I used to own a MacBook Pro 2.53Ghz, 4GB Memory, 9600GT 256MB and it's horrible for playing game (Bootcamp alone is a very bad Windows experience).
I know this forum because of Alienware, not MacBook. But I used to have a Mac and I love it. Other than lacking of few app support (sadly the ones I need) MacBook is awesome. I love its screen, its design, its OS and most of all: Multi-touch trackpad
Have a great X-mas everybody. And welcome to Alienware forum -
whats tolerable in a game is very subjective. Some people consider it "unplayable" to not run the highest resolution and mot of the graphics options.... while I play many games at very low resolutions with all the graphics options turned off, and it doesn't bother me one bit.
and this isn't the alienware forum -
Gee if his machine is horrible for playing game then my Non-Pro must be impossible? Yet somehow I play Left 4 Dead 2, COD 4, Everquest 2 and a host of other STEAM games @ native rez usually around medium just fine?
I'm with doh123, it's subjective. For a desktop I would consider this a not so great experience. But when it comes to on the go gaming it's fine for me. -
Left 4 dead 2 is unbelievably fun. All the different online game modes...I find I'm playing it much more than any of my other games.
Also I find the 1st person shooter feel of Infinity Ward's games not as good/fun as Valve's. I like playing Counterstrike and L4D2 much more because the movements are better. -
Be careful you don't have a heart attack from all those excessive hours of gaming or maybe even epilepsy from the stuttering framerates of the Macbook.

I got one of these.... it doesn't help as much as I'd hoped, but it does prevent any built up heat around the laptop really good.

I would say yes... extended gaming = extended heat which stresses out internals more, so yes extended gaming reduces lifespan
Does extended gaming reduce lifespan?
