i have heard allot of mixed things recently and when i went into the apple store yesterday and played around with a macbook they all had backlit keyboards yet they might have been the 2.4 versions (i dident check)

the sales assistant also did not mention anything about the 2.0ghz versions having no backlit keyboard

and also the sensor for the light is where the camera is at the top of the screen so if anyone who has a 2.0ghz version minds putting their palm over it to test that would help me allot in making my new macbook decision.

    thanks.

The lowest Aluminium Macbook has no backlit keyboard. Only the higher end model has.

The Apple Online Store page was actually quite misleading, at first, when you chose the $1299 MacBook, it gave the option between "Backlit US Keyboard" or "Backlit Spanish Keyboard", when in fact they're not backlit.

Anyway, no, the $1299 MacBook doesn't have a backlit keyboard. Its quite a shame, its a nice feature, but I doubt most people would get the $1599 one just for it.

Stupid of Apple not to include the backlight as an option for the entry model. I personally could see myself paying an extra $50 for it.

Shash Kun, it does not void the warranty, but please use the search function as you are asking questions that have been answered million times before.
