Has it been taken care of already by Apple? I don't see anymore posts regarding to it..
-
It probably still exists. However, it is not really as big of a deal now, as if you feel your MBP runs too hot just use the free SMCFanControl to increase fan speed to lower temperature.
I'm using SMCFanControl to adjust my fan speed to 3600 RPM (still real quiet) right now, and normally my MB runs at about 55-65 C, and now I rarely reach 55 C. I'm at 42 C right now. Woot! -
Yeah, it was more of a problem with CD units (like mine).
My MBP runs pretty hot, but less hot than my old Sager. With SMCFanControl it helps a lot. When I play World of Warcraft, it does heat up, but I could still place it on my lap if I wanted.
Newer units are much more cool though, and the case was redesigned to allow better air flow and cooling. -
Oh yikes, hollownail, you have a Core Duo MBP? Those were pretty hot
. They really cooled them down in the Core 2 Duo revision and the Santa Rosa update.
-
I just got this after reading your response... how fast do you run your fans? And what would happen to the fans if someone ran them constantly at 6000 rpm?? i am trying it now to see how cool the computer gets... but i dont wanna ruin my fans for a lil comfort
-
I'm assuming you're talking about SMCFanControl? I would say don't constantly run the fans at 6000 RPM. 20 minutes, half an hour is fine, but don't run it at that speed for hours and hours.
I set my MacBook to run at 3600 RPM constantly. It cools the MacBook down a lot while it is still very quiet. -
I run mine at about 4k rpm. The normal on these older MBP is 1k which is just not enough.
-
I have an older mbp and it runs 1k as well, but i had to have my fans replaced, since i blew one of them (normal use, i just got fan control)
-
That is the reason i love applecare

The thermal paste issue was only with the original (Core Duo) MBPs.
-
Thanks, that's relieving.

Not according to this thread, unfortunately: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=132442&highlight=thermal+paste
But I still wouldn't worry about it. -
Crap, looks like I need to do some research. I have a 6 week old santa rosa system that runs very hot when I play WoW. Even sitting on a table/desk, the computer will overheat every time and eventually lock up/freeze. I guess I should take it in?
-
Check the temperatures first. Download the iStat Pro widget and give us your temperatures when normally surfing the web, gaming, etc.
-
Ok, to clarify then: It is not a known issue with C2D MBPs (which it was with CD MBPs), but that does of course not rule out the occasional unit suffering from it. That's a fluke however, not a design flaw.
So no, don't worry about it.
Does the MBP thermal paste problem still exist?
