I just love when people say things like that. It almost sounds like a threat. :p Get real man, if you really wanted the Sony you wouldn't be waiting for Apple's next notebook. If Apple doesn't release something by the 14th you know you are not going to doing anything but keep waiting, don't kid yourself.

    Haha, so true. :D

Well, I heard the new XPS dells are going to be released in november so who knows, maybe Apple is going to launch in november too, maybe there is a ship shortage that forces them to wait until then, I don't know really. I doubt they want to miss out on the holidays though.

Something I find to be very strange is, why did everyone expect the event to be the 14th if nvidia was going to have an event the 15th to introduce the chipset which is supposed to be in the new macbooks? Maybe they will have a correlating event on the 15th?

what is with all the fuss over these new macs anyway?
ppl on average buy one mac every 10 years or so,
and i already bought a macbook this decade, it would take me quite a while to forget that experience. and yet i still like iphone alot, alot more than their computers that dont do computing.

I'm not sure but does anyone think the announcement for the event was put on hold for Steve Jobs to get back to good enough health to give the keynote, since amidst the fake news report from last week, he might have visited the hospital for a checkup or something. Since he means so much to the company and has such drastic effect on the company's stock, if anyone other than Steve Jobs himself gave the keynote then all sorts of unnecessary rumors would start to swirl.

I doubt he has any health problems, he has been looking great lately, the ipod event went really smooth, then he was in europe looking healthy as well, I think generally his health issues have been over dramatized.

I agree with you, his health and all false news about it are quite exaggerated and they have had real negative effect on the company's stock especially, but compared to keynotes from last year or 2006, he looks quite thinner this year. I'm just hoping Apple announces the event tomorrow morning and its on for October 14.

Hmm, what I find interesting is, checking newegg, they don't have the base or white macbook in stock. There's been some speculation for awhile now, that retailers were told to stock up on apple notebooks and to expect a shortage (possibly due to an update).
However, amazon still has them in stock, so I don't know. Usually newegg has massive stock on items though, so that's why I'm kind of wondering if this might be a (one of a few) sign of an impending update.
Grrr, this is driving me crazy!! :(

    It'll probably still happen.

Apple employees have told me a refresh is coming up, and yea I'd think that the refresh would be out this month.

Leaving it till 2009 is kind of a silly thing for apple to do.

And apple just sold a ton of their old stock for the kids who bought laptops with student discounts. So they'll need some kind of new stock.

Lastly, maybe they'll break the tuesday trend, or maybe it might be like on the 21st or something, just to spite people who were expecting it on the 14th. lol

Since reports have come flying our way that nvidia employees have gotten new Macbooks to test out, I really don't think the rumors are false.

Perhaps Apple is going to simply leave it to nvidia to announce the new Macbooks on the 15th.

The sheer amount of rumors that have been leaked on the new Macbooks pretty much guarantees their validity, the only question is WHEN, not IF.

Now I can't imagine Apple waiting until after the holidays to launch the new Macbooks especially if even half of the rumors are true.

For Macbook Pro's, that's another story because we have literally heard nothing about them getting refreshes before the end of the year. But with Macbooks there have been plenty of leaked rumors/pics, etc. Right down to the new Manufacturing Process being used to create the new Aluminum cases which will no doubt allow for yearly refreshes from now on because of the ease with with they will be able to modify designs.

IF the new Mac's are going to be having new Nvidia chip sets, I don't see why Apple and Nvidia would want to separate events, they'd obviously have had to have done a lot of negotiating, I think they'd probably want to merge the two together, especially Nvidia, so their event will automatically get loads of attention because it has Apple in :D.
Call me stupid, but won't this mean Apple having to update all their other computer that have a AMD graphics card, like, it'd make sense... I mean, I know they probably won't HAVE to, but you'd think Nvidia would like that.

First apple won't need to change a thing for the graphics cards. They already include drivers for both ati and nvidia cards in OSX... thus all that will need to happen is a new point release at most.
Second just read over at AppleInsider that next Monday is holiday and historically Apple has pushed the event to a Wednesday.

Thus it could be that apple/nvidia will release on the same day. Or apple has pushed the event back due to a) the stock market crash b) new manufacturing process c) the rumours were wrong.

Just save the image to your desktop, then upload it to:
    http://imageshack.us/
Then copy the direct link to the image, and then if you're nice, put a link below to the original image's link, or the guy's portfolio. Seriously, it's really easy to change that image to something really bad, and the person who has to pay for the website will be loosing bandwidth for every person who goes on this page. Websites like image shack are designed to host images.

'Brick' MacBook Pro leaked in up-close spy shot?

by Joshua Topolsky, posted Oct 8th 2008 at 3:15PM

Since we heard those "Brick" rumors the other day, the mill has been all but silent... until now. It's hard to tell exactly what we're looking at here, but ****ed if this doesn't look like some fancy new MacBook Pro carved out of a single piece of metal (except for those sides, so, there goes that theory). We'll let you make your own decisions after giving this the once over, but if this is what Apple has in store for us, our curiosity is definitely piqued.

It does look to be carved out of a block, just they carved out a bottom, there has to be a away to put the stuff in it, and for the battery/ram accesses. This eliminates the screws from the side. And will probably just have them on the bottom.

The problem is, that supposed carved "aluminum" just looks like an off-white plastic to me. Since there are so many fabs and ODM's in china, could it just be a shot of a different brand? i.e. toshiba, sony, what-have-you.

I wonder if... more than 1 or 2 colors will be released. I also wonder if Apple will not charge $200 more just for a black option. I'd rather pay www.colorwarepc.com the $450 it costs to paint my MBP instead with a metallic color.

Wow, this has been a long read. On bed with my mobile, I have read each and every post!

Enough with the rumours, I'm here to set the record straight. I just got off the phone with Steve and he gave me the green light on sharing this with you.

There will be no updates, infact, no macbooks will ever be produced again. Lenovo bought them out and will start a new line of notebooks; MacPads. :p
