welcome gamecock1124,
Santa Rosa will speed up intensive tasks like audio/graphical/vector/video editing/encoding because the internal bus speed will be raised. Most basic tasks as you mentioned will remain nearly the same because they just don't require much from the computer. Things might be a little "snappier" because programs load faster, or the OS handles multitasking better. Until Music goes Hi-Def (if we ever make it there) I don't see music stressing even yesterdays computers. -
For the tasks you are doing, getting a notebook now will serve very well. Of course, if you can wait, you will certainly get more power when Apple puts in the newer procs.

thanks yall, the only thing im really worried about is futureproofing (i believe thats what its called) im looking for something to last for a LONG time, and not be too outdated. I can wait till the end of summer around august or so, so it is possible for me to wait. other than performance wise, is there any hardware updates or anything like that possibly

Chances are good something will happen, but nothing is ever certain with Apple. The only thing we can be sure of is there will be more rumors, and new reasons to wait. But if waiting is no big deal, you might as well. As for future proofing, it's either 6 or 1/2 a dozen. Technology is constantly moving
Effects of the updates
