After using OS X for about 3 weeks, I still can't get used to the slow cursor acceleration when using an external mouse. It's too slow when you're moving the mouse a little, and it's too fast when you move it by a lot. I've increased the tracking speed in system preferences, but it still doesn't seem "right". I think Windows' cursor acceleration is just perfect.
Does anyone else have this problem?

If you ever get your cursor acceleration just right, PM me. If you want it nearly right, there are programs to help you: Speedmouse, USB Overdrive... that free one that doesn't seem to work... iMouseFix I think. -
Yeah, it's kind of annoying especially after using Windows for your whole life (this is my first Mac). I thought this "problem" could be fixed after I installed the drivers for my Logitech mouse, but the drivers made my Macbook slower. For example, it took twice as long to boot up the computer after installing those drivers, so I eventually uninstalled it.
Is there a program that will let me use the back button on my mouse without using Logitech's drivers? -
Well, I oddly enough don't have the problem when using my MS laser mouse. But if I use the logitech v270 bluetooth mouse (think thats the model) it's terrible.
but it's even terrible in windows... -
steermouse will let you customize your mouse buttons...its not free though

I find the same thing as hallownail, my MS mouses have been much better than my Logitechs on OS X. So if the programs don't help, try a different mouse. Although, I suppose my experience may not be accurate since my external mouse is actually shared from a Windows computer, so it is not actually plugged into the Mac.

Are you using a KVM or something?
-
I use a virtual keyboard and mouse switch called Synergy. It is actually a really nice solution if you do not need to switch the monitor.

Cashmonee, you're dead-on about synergy. If you plugged the mouse straight into your mac you'd see completely different behavior.

I use mouse***m. It's free and it's perfect! try it out!
Edit: Apparrently z00m is a bad word...
Emulate Windows' cursor acceleration in OS X.
