I want to format my hard drive so I can have a partion to work for Windows and another Partion to work for Mac OS X. I'm planning on giving each a 100GB partion.

If you formatted it with FAT32 you could use it with both Windows and OS X without any problems.

Except the file size limitations of FAT32. If that is a problem for you, I use MacDrive 6 on my Windows machine to read HFS+. That way I can format the drive as HFS+ and still read/write with both. The down side there is that it is harder to use the external on someone else's machine who does not have MacDrive.
