    Hi all,

I'm having issues with getting my external monitor to work with boot camp. I use my MBP as a desktop while at home(I have monitor, wireless keyboard/mouse, and speakers all hooked up to make it just like a desktop).

Unfortunately I cannot get my monitor to show up when I boot to Windows XP via boot camp. Is there any trick to getting this to work?

    Thanks for any help.

I am having the same problem with Vista Home Prem. It sees the second monitor but won't turn it on. It does however work fine in OSX. Oh well, didn't really need it working....just thought I would try it out.

Ok. This is what I did. I have a 37" LCD Vizio TV that i use as an external monitor for my MacBook. I have tried it on Windows and it DOES work.
    Steps:
    1-Boot into XP
    2-right click on desktop-->properties
3-go to the settings tab and press advanced
4-there are a few tabs "general, adapter, monitor, troubleshoot" that you should be able to see at the top, but above those you should see your GPU for your MacBook or MacBook Pro. (Im at work right now, so im testing this on my Windows based PC but i went through this EXACT process yesterday and it worked fine). Click on the Intel GMA 950 tab ABOVE the general, adapter, monitor, ETC. tabs and it should bring you to another menu. Click the button in the middle of the screen once you click on the Intel GMA 950 Tab and it should open up a menu unlike any others you've experienced. Within this menu, you are able to set external monitors and also set mirroring. Excuse the broad intruction but I am at work right now and am trying to remember what these buttons are called. If you can't figure it out by 5pm (PST) please repost with your questions and ill be sure to walk you through the process when i get home and have it in front of me. Hope this helps tho.

system_159, I completely overlooked the fact you have the Radeon X1600 MBP.

You should be able to configure your monitor through ATI's Catalyst Control Center (Right-Click the Desktop and Select ATi Catalyst Control Center). Then choose the Display Manager tab and run the Wizard. Here is the Multiple Monitor Guide (pdf) from ATi.

That Gma tab got me excited more than anything on the web,to get my 23" Hatachi LCD to work with Bootcamp. Mac OS works fine via dvi mini-dvi-hdmi-monitor. XP/Bootcamp still a big No-Go! Any thoughts using other ATI or Intel drivers? Other Forums suggest this DVi port will not work with 1.3 beta. Thanks Richard in Michigan.Mac OS X 10.4.10

You need to use the correct drivers for your hardware. If you have a MacBook (Intel GMA 950) use Intel Drivers. If you have a MacBook Pro (MBP) with ATI Radeon X1600, use ATI Drivers. Or if you have a MBP with NVIDIA GeForce 8600m GT, use NVIDIA Drivers. For example, you cannot use ATI/NVIDIA Drivers with your Intel GMA 950.

All the necessary drivers should be included with Boot Camp. They are called Mac Windows Drivers. I suggest you update Boot Camp to v1.4 Beta and reinstall the Mac Windows Drivers.

Thank you very for the quick reply! I take it the 1.4 beta from Apples website will overwrite 1.3 and prompt me to make another cd for drivers. I'll try it.

Pretty much. The Update Instructions are in the Installation & Setup Guide (PDF) on Page 5. After you Update to v1.4 I don't remember if you actually get prompted to reinstall the Mac Windows Drivers, but it's the same process you did before.

Xander, Thanks again. I know Bootcamp was setup from the Mac OS. Is this update performed on the Mac side also?

Update to 1.4 BETA went fine. Still a big N0_G0! It's funny when I power up external monitor or just unplug/plugin it I get the windows Ding/Dong tone. Fiddled with all the intel settings till blue in the face Monitor still Black. I know i'm close on a mission & WILL NOT GIVE UP!

That sucks! One other thing I can think of is to unplug the Hitachi LCD from it's power source, wait a few seconds before plugging it back in, and try again.

I've got nothing else, sorry. Plus I just noticed you're from Michigan, not cool :p. Just kidding, peace.

That's fine Daughter @ Bowling green U and relatives all over Ohio. The monitor works great with no problems on the Mac side. When I started this trek 3 weels ago, i think it was Apples site that stated"The dvi mini will not work with boot camp!" But that was 2 betas ago. Peace

Gents, I had tried and tried and tried to get an external monitor working with my MB under Boot Camp. But with your direction, I succeeded in five minutes after failing for many months. So I joined this forum expressly to thank you for your concise and efficacious advice.

I hope you upgraded your graphics drivers. Don't use the filth that Apple give you.

    Hi all,

I got lucky by going to the device manager in windows (start/control panel/system/hardware tab/device manager) and i uninstalled the radeon x1600 (I have a MBP) i then rebooted and Presto! i had both monitors. But when i went to change the resoution on the external one (it was really low and i have a high definition monitor) it went black again (arghh)

but i am now installing the radeon drivers from their site (is it a good idea to use the non-mac drivers?--im not sure)wish me luck.

    *UPDATE*
    Mission succesfull!
I went to the ati radeon site, went to download the drivers (this deosent work, as i found eventually. So dont waste your time and bandwith doing this) Click here to go to the proper driver download page, then click "Catalyst Control Center (English)" this will download the management program for the graphics card. Let it install, then reboot your computer.

Next, right click your desktop and choose "Catalyst(tm) Control Center" this will open a page asking whether you want the advanced or basic mode ( i went trhough the advanced mode ) then click on "displays manager" in the column to the left.

once this page opens, you'll see two boxes (you'll actually see severall boxes, but these two are the most important and obvious) the first has a pic of a laptop in it, and the other has a pic of a monitor or tv (depending on your computer) Underneath these boxes is a rectangular box, start by randomly dragging whatevers in the big rectangle (for me there was a couple pics of monitors ) into the second box ( Important: dont drag this into the box with your laptops pic in it--it will wipe out your laptops display for 15 seconds--extremely annoying) a box will pop up saying "switch devices" click it. your monitor will then refresh itself, and if your lucky your other monitor will work. If not, repeat the above steps with all of the pics from the rectangular box.

Hope this helps, and i also hope its at least half legible ( I've been typing too fast, noticed how my user name is weird )
