I have recently been getting pretty severe eye strain and headaches (migraines) after spending too much time online. Has anyone here experienced any eye strain or headaches from their Macbook Pro Glossy Screens?
I never used to get these with my older Macbook Black that I had. The screen on my new Macbook Pro looks great and colors are excellent but the eye strain is really bad and I am wondering if anyone has these problems with their Macbook Pro Glossy screen and if it is any better with the regular Macbooks (Macbook White) compared to the Macbook pros??
I was thinking that the Thinkpads would be better for having less eye strain compared to the Macbook Pro 15" glossy screens so I asked a question in that forum as well to get some feedback from the Thinkpad users. I am now thinking of getting a Thinkpad laptop or a regular Macbook because of the eye strain and headaches I get after spending too much time looking at my Macbook screen.
Al comments and inputs appreciated.

I also have 'weak' eyes after working on this laptop which has a glossy screen. I did not have that problem (or atleast not so hard) after working on my dekstop with a matte screen.
The new BMP 15" have the option of matte screens. The sony vaio bz series also have a matte screen, and the resolution 1440*900 seems quite good aswell. -

Anyone who spends too much time in front of computer will get eye strains. By using a non-glossy screen, and lowering the brightness level to comfortable zones, you can reduce the effect of eye strains dramatically.

Correct!!Apart from this, i have also seen that the macbook pro screen strains the eye. This is why i do not set the brightness to the max. I think this has got something to do with the LED screen. The whites are too bright. I will also suggest you that you start using a non-white colored picture as background. I have a seaside scene with a coconut tree leaf covering it as my wallpaper (which i copied from vista default backgrounds). Also use 3/4 brightness as far as possible. I hope this helps.

you could have order the macbook with anti-glare screen but a little extra $$$

Or just buy an antiglare panel for the machine.

Get this http://www.radtech.us/Products/ClearCal-Displays.aspx
Roll over those little thumbnail to see more. I'm sure there is an video as well.
I might get it too when I get my macbook pro. -

My setting is pretty much set to the lowest for brightness. Thanks for all the inputs so far.
Anyone comment on the regular Macbook vs Macbook Pro screen for eye strain?
-
i have used both and the screen quality is the same. Therefore i believe it will have the same effect on your eyes.
-
yeah, macbook vs macbook pro makes no sense. because if Macbook is antiglare... Macbook Pro has the option for Antiglare as well. Both are based on the same screen technology just size is different.
-
I just check over again to make sure, Macbook (white) has glossy screen same as Macbook Pro. But as for Macbook Pro they have the option for Antiglare ($50).
To reduce your eye strain, lower your brightness, sit in a well lit environment (room). Sit back and don't force your eyes. Not sure if you wear glasses... make sure you have good vision (check up).
I know a lot of people can't tell if they have far or close vision issue for the first time until they do a checkup that they needed glasses. -
Huh eyestrain? I don't have any eye strain at all with max brightness. I spend on average 4-5 hours a day and I haven't experienced any of discomforts you have mentioned. Then again I do wear either contacts or glasses most of the time and have been using computers since i was like 8 so maybe im just used to it. Must be those long (omg 8 hours) WoW sessions that have my eyes adjusted......

xD
You totally remind me 2 years ago raiding in WoW... dam I pulled 12 hours each day... seriously no life... -

Spoke too soon.

buy matte screen and don't believe the guys who state it is crap. glossy screen is just cheap cover over LCD, glossy came from the low-budget laptops area where they tried to improve picture quality (basically brightness) I already have spent some time to explain bad sides of glossy screens and don't want to start it again, apple guys are too hot like their overheated laptops
-
I went out to a local shop and got a screen cover. It's not perfect but it is better than before.

I spend about 16 hours/day working in front of my computers. glossy and matte. I don't get eye strain.
Check the level of contrast in your colors. It may be set too high.
Also check the brightness. Always set it low if you're in low lighting situations. Always have a light on to offset the screen light. -

I used a glossy laptop made by HP and had eye probelm. My vision was going bad. We need launch a class action suit to all glossy screen making computer manufactures.
My eye doctor advised me to use an anti glare screen as I work long hours programming. -
